Curious, when you’re playing ranked matches and people quit and it becomes 2 v 4, why do the 2 people lose rank when they lose? Seems impossible to win and it’s not the 2 remaining players faults. When people quit, the quitters should lose rank and the remaining players protected
I donno. The less people on my team it feels like I have an advantage usually, at least if the other team is not playing as a team and underestimates me
It’s all a bit weird… and I don’t think we’ve worked it out yet.
If the players quit early the rank loss seems to be minimal. If they quit late then the result seems to count as normal. I guess that makes sense, but can sometimes still feel a bit harsh.
You can also lose rank, or at least more than you expect, if your CSR has drifted above your MMR (on the back of a few easy wins). The system uses the loss, quitters or not, to bring your CSR back in alignment with your MMR. Again, it makes sense, but is not a very pleasant way of doing it.
If you lose a player, and that player was the weakest link, you can actually do better as a team. Stronger overall and less targets for the opposition. Not so much in objective games, but definitely in Slayer.
They need an option for a player to join back in. When a player drops out they should make it 3v3 (the extra player rotating off the bench with each death) and give the missing player a couple of minutes to join back in.
Also a time out option? On a death you get one chance to delay spawning back in for a minute. Just once per game - but long enough for you to deal with whatever crisis may have otherwise have made it difficult to play on.
Definitely don’t start a match that is a player short before it even starts (or make it 3v3). And have mercy options so that remaining players can withdraw gracefully without penalty and not waste time.
Other games that allow lessened blows or matches not counting thanks to quitters and it became abused to the point it made earning ranks completely pointless. Some games even get to the point they have people who will bully a teammate to get them to quit so they don’t lose points.
It would actually make the whole point of ranked rather trival in the long run if they did it this way. Imagine if you had someone leave every time it was abundantly clear you were going to lose so you never lost points, you could only gain them?
And Slayer you have a slight advantage . Anything else and You’re at a disadvantage? Oddball, ctf, etc.
General Fox I never thought about that, I guess every decision has unintended consequences.
I had a match last night of oddball. Very quickly became 1v4, that was a joy. Especially when I just gave up to try and let the game end quickly and the other team thought that they needed to hold my skull to gain points. 3v1 in every encounter is not fun at all, give it a rest.
Oh right right right, you’re correct
