It’s the same in league of legends. Idk how exactly it is executed in halo, but in lol you get matched depending on your hidden mmr
That’s a dumb thing to try to sell then. Pro soccer team beats middle school team any day of the week. Whatever you are on, do share.
Here is a perfect example of the absurdity in Ranked.
I read this comment in a Twitch stream chat Tuesday night: “I went 1-9 in placements and got D1”.
In other words, this player had 9 losses in Unranked and got placed in Diamond 1.
That is absolutely senseless. There is no way this player had a stellar performance and 9 losses.
The Ranked algorithm requires major rework.
Well, all ten of my placement matches were in Onyx level lobbies. I know I’m a platinum skill level at best (Infinite feels too difficult for me), yet the game thought I should always face Onyx even though I was unranked. Won less than half my games, only had a positive KDA in one game. Still got placed in Diamond 1.
The system did nothing to match me with my true skill level. It seems it wanted me to be in diamond no matter what I did.
there’s a 343 employee who used to frequent the mm boards for H5. he was an absolute arrogant -Yoink!- smoker who could do no wrong.
Looking at his game stats he not only hardly ever played the game, he was also rubbish at it.
I bet he designed the ranking and mm systems for infinite.
At least your players move…
I always get that AFK player on my team. What a joke.
The question is - what is ranked supposed to mean?
If you look at their ranked distributions - 75% of the population who have placed in controller only or kb+m only are platinum or higher. Doesn’t hold a bell curve at all like their model wants (2/3 of players should fall in gold or platinum), crossplay is closer - I am guessing due to groups of 3 and 4 having some gold/silver/bronze players that play with their friends.
But let’s say only 1000 people played controller only and all 1000 mmr happen to actually be diamond or onyx - should all 1000 players place in diamond or onyx? Answer to me is no - rank should be relative to who you are facing. The bell curve would apply to only those who have ranked - so only those 1000 - and 2% of those need to be bronze for the model to work - even if their “halo infinite mmr” is actually diamond or better. If it’s not going to work this way - ranked means very little. It’s just your mmr for halo infinite in general. I already know I’m a diamond or better player depending if I want to grind out onyx and champion if they will add it. And since sbmm is in all playlists - it’s not like I will get less quality games outside of ranked.
Wait, really? How do we know what the rankings are calculated on?
What makes no sense to me is the presence of power weapons or the needler ranked should be BR starts with NO other weapons spawning on the map except AR’s and no other spawns at all you should be force to scavage ammo from dead bodies only and NO power weapons
Could be me, I’m onyx because I grinded a lot of ranked in the first days. They somehow changed up the matchmaking when the full release hit on the 8th and I won a whooping 3 games out of my last 20 ranked matches. Somehow I still managed to get a 1.1 KD overall, but most games I’m going negative and get blasted out of existence (happens both in crossplay and MnK Solo queue as I’m onyx in both). Still I lost only 5 CSR in this time and am cursed in staying that rank
Strong disagree on that, the power weapons are there to be controlled. It isn’t fun to just limit the sandbox. If we do that then why not give everyone sniper rifles? Takes more skill than giving everyone BRs.
Personally, I wish they would increase power weapons. So many of the 4v4 maps have only 1 (if that) power weapon. Used to have around 2 or 3. Like with beam sword and shotty spawns, they would counter each other. Made it more interesting.
I can’t with this rank system… half the team quits and you still lose rank.
Play one bad game and you lose an entire 1/3 of your current rank, dominate the entire next match to gain back an 8th of what you lost?!
Lose a match but finish 1st of all 8 players and lose a ton of rank, win the next and dominate and gain almost nothing back.
K/D ratio of the last 6 teams I played against: 1.4
K/D ratio of the last 6 teams I played for: 0.7
(and I was the best player on the team in several of those games).
Matchmaking is completely broken.
This is a big mistake by 343. You shouldn’t lose rank if someone quits. Especially early.
The downside is that it would then suck just as much for the winners - they wouldn’t get any rank gain either.
At the very least they shouldn’t use these matches to take CSR off you if your MMR is below your CSR. That can wait for a legitimate loss.
Any good ranking system has to reward / punish according to the strength of the opposition. It’s basically the reason they can work faster than simple win/loss step-ladder systems.
But I agree it’s frustrating when it’s not clear why you gained or lost what you did. There should be a way of looking up the breakdown of rank won or lost on a game by game basis.
It’s designed to pivot on the W/L and how strong your opponent is.
Sounds like you’ve had a bad run of matches. But you should only really lose significant rank if you were expected to win any of those.
Individual performance is a weighting - but it’s not necessarily your K/D. It’s probably a different parametric, K/min, and we don’t know how it’s applied to objective games.
At it’s heart it is a team game. And your skill rank is a reflection of your team play more than individual skill.
There will be losses you played well in… and wins you didn’t play so well.
It will all wash out in the end.
So much defending of what 343 says it is supposed to do without looking at what it is doing. It isn’t matching people of similar skill. It is creating matches that are not fun consistently. You shouldn’t have to play all night long against superior teams every single game. It sucks.
Not really defending anything 343 says.
Overall you have a K/D 1.2 and a W/L 45%. Doesn’t sound too far off the mark.
Is it the last six games that are annoying you? You won 2 of them!
Of the four losses the skill of the players looked pretty even. Obviously match-making can’t predict how those players are going to gel as a team.
The one match where things went awry was the Onxy, Onyx. Plat, Silver team you played. I’m assuming they were using the Silver player to sandbag your team so that the Onxy players can buff their rank. That does suck.
1 close loss in oddball: -14.
2 wins, one slayer carried a 9-17 guy… +8.
6 wins, 3 losses (one against an aimbot), red bar.
The desire to play is endless. xD
At this point I rather gad NO csr at all, just match me with hidden mmr amd give me a chalkenge swap for each win. Or put in a simple counter somewher in the UI.
EVERYTHING is better than this demotivating BS. Sweating through a slayer game with a great comeback to gain almost nothing. Sweating through a 3 round oddball game, losing two games by 5 points and losing points for three wins. Oh boy, you really got your psychology lessons right, 343.
It’s very disappointing that an XP rank or counter of some sort wasn’t mentioned in today’s S1 review.
It is desperately needed.
