Ranked leader boards prove the issue with smurfing

Looking at the leaderboards on halotracker and it’s clear as day to see how easy it is to manipulate your rank.

Just looking at the top 3 cross-play/controller/kb/m modes and their all smurfing and artificially boosting their CSR.

Won’t name the gamertags, but everyone can actually go and see.

Every ranked game they play, there is max 3 players on their team, but mostly it is them and a single other player. This isn’t the system doing this, this is them.

They party up with smurf accounts of low rank or unranked players, and once the game connects to server the smurf account disconnects leaving them to play against golds and silvers.

It’s cheating, it’s dishonest and makes a mockery of what ranked is all about.

The only ones who seem legit and solo/duo ranked leaderboards as they can’t smurf with multiple accounts.

Top player 2400 CSR in cross play, only D3 with a 1.03kd in duo…gees i wonder why.

It’s time 343 start banning them, hardware ban, whatever.

I’d rather play on my skill level and earn it then this crap.

It’s horrible.

I have no idea why we have a large scale CSR.

I don’t necessarily want to go back to 1-50. But something like 1-100 would be good.

Somebody once suggested 1-117. That would be a nice touch.

And if you think the toxic grind for a handful of CSR points is bad now. Wait until they release Champion status for the top 200. It’s only going to get worse.

If CSR can be manipulated, won’t this rank become just as polluted with smurfs as well? If so, why would they even add this then?

Large scale CSR allows for larger numbers and more minute changes to be visible to the player, which is more motivating.

You’re matchmade on team skill, whatever visual representation you have of this rank, your team value will still be the same. 1-50 or 1-117 or 1-100000 - it doesn’t matter which one they use because it will result in the same placements relative to MMR and the total rank available.

As for the champion rank, if it materialises, it will just be another visual representation aside from onyx that comes in at 1800CSR - since every rank before this (bronze > onyx) is separated by 300CSR. If you’re currently onyx 1800 you will become “champion”.

The irony is - if SBMM worked properly you would get to your max rank and there would be very little change without direct training in areas that you can improve on. Team effectiveness, team shooting, objective specific training, it’s much less down to individual skill at this point because you are human and have limitations.

It would actually be more rewarding to have the inheritor system re-implemented. You can keep the onyx system for people trying to achieve the impossible (continual and endless improvement) whilst also having a visual badge of honour to denote experience regardless of skill.

For example - my wife was inheritor. She is gold 3. We tended not to matchmake with many other inheritors so she could be considered a halo reach “veteran”

Just food for thought

Except for two factors.

  1. The precision is just not there. While 1-1800+ works fine for match making. It doesn’t for grinding. There is no way you can look at someone who lives on the same street and is 15 points above you and say with any confidence they are a better player. It’s even harder to compare players across different servers. And completely futile across time zones. Yet we get hung up on every single point won or lost.

  2. For some reason 343 want to “reward” you with CSR for every win. And at some stage that has to be taken back (if you haven’t skilled up). And people lose their minds. Just look at all the ranking threads… full of bitter posts how a single loss ruins their night’s grind. Yet we are talking a handful of points at most.

It’s demotivating at best.

Yep. You can still match make on MMR. Which is what it is designed to do.

But 343 is in full control of the CSR and how they present it. They can do better.

My concern comes from Halo 5’s implementation of Champion. Which was the top 200 CSR’s. If they did this the grind will be next level toxic.

I would love it if they simply awarded it at a set CSR. Especially if it’s relatively low.

Not sure what you are getting at here.

SBMM is kind of separate from your rank.

But yes, once you reach your skill ceiling then it’s very hard to actually improve. The problem with the current system is people feel they are improving (gaining CSR with each win) - but don’t realise their MMR isn’t going up (because they aren’t actually improving).

Yes please. Bring in some sort of XP rank. Make that the focus of game to game performance. Weight it to wins, medals, and scores.

Leave the skill ranking to do just that.

I never look at halo tracker……play to win
Sick of playing games with people who won’t hold the ball or keep the flag alive because it might mean a death.

A wins a win, the person who goes -10 still might have contributed more to a CTF win than the person who goes +7

It’s not really about taking the game too seriously.

It’s about integrity, there are player’s out there who have earnt their rank/CSR Score through skill and gameplay.

They should at least be acknowledged for their skill, not 200th on the leader board because of people who are manipulating a flawed system.

I’m a diamond 1 currently, this isn’t about me.

Gonna send a friend request in a few days, (out of town) this is my attitude as well. Hopefully we can win a few together…peace
