As Ive finished bp for both seasons, thinking of trying the journey to onyx (solo/controller)
As far as I understand, the only rewards for reaching it are emblems and bragging rights.
So dear spartans, is it worth my mental health?
If you end up on 80ms or above servers then no, and thanks to no server select or âBest Connectionâ search options, you donât even get a say.

It is fun being able to say you are onyx i will say although it honestly isnât that hard. Wish we got a whole armor coating instead of just an emblem. But 343 seems to be against any kind of showing off of accomplishment (stupid participation ribbon mentality on rewards, xp, and lack of any difficult challenges that have actual rewards such as an armor set).
So is it worth an emblem, kind of, and for me i enjoy the risk/reward system of being able to rise or fall in ranked.
I will say KD matters way more than just winning so if you find your team is going to lose, try to get your KD as high as possible so you donât drop that much. If you are winning also get your KD up as it will make you move up way more. After playing with friends if we win and someone went way negative they barely move up. So in short KD KD KD. No, you wonât be able to play on low ping servers at the moment, until 343 fix this problem with server selection

It not worth it. 343 has made what you do in ranked impact what you do in unranked. The second I placed in my ranking for ranked all of the sudden all of my unranked games became as competitive and difficult as my ranked.
I wish I hadnât played it because now the game is not enjoyable at all.

yeah they make it so playing the objective doesnât even matter as long as you win in the end and have massive kills
From my experience, the wait times alone are reason enough I donât go into ranked.

Not at all.
As someone who plays the Objective and wants the Win, my team always ends up leaving me to do all the objective work. This results in me having a worse KDA then my team who are playing slayer and if I donât do enough to win the match then I lose a massive amount of experience in comparison then my team.
When I get frustrated and start to just play slayer every round then I find I go on long losing sprees because thereâs no one trying to win the objective on my team.
Itâs a horrible experience.
The entire design of ranking up being based on kills per minute is horrendous for team objective.
Like everyone else Iâm hoping for a ranked slayer or ranked doubles because the ranked playlist right now is just terrible.
This is coming from someone whos favorite mode is Capture the Flag.
I would love to play nothing but Ranked Capture the Flag but 343i doesnât want me to ENJOY myself.

Hot take maybe, but ranked play in Halo has never been particularly good. Halo 2 ranking was nonsensical. Halo 3 infamously had large groups of the community claiming âIf youâre under 50, youâre not good, and if youâre 50, you MIGHT be goodâ. Rank in this series has never meant much.
If the rewards arenât worth it to you, then I wouldnât even bother. I did it in S1 and got some emblems I will never use. If I had made it to Onyx, I would have also received a weapon charm I would never use. Not worth it, IMO.
No, NOT AT ALL and let me explain why.
If you ask any streamer or high Onyx player they will tell you that the only thing that matters in Halo Ranked games are KDA and secondly Damage Ratio (how much damage you do to how much you take). As one 2100 Onyx put it to me today, âYeah, man, you gotta slay. Everyone knows that.â
Well, I guess I didnât want to believe it because only 1 Ranked Game mode is based on KDA (Slayer), the rest are objective based (KOTH, CTF, Oddball, and Strongholds). What this does is it creates a system where no one ever wants to play the objective and instead just goes for KDA. I have been in multiple games where no one will pick up the ball and just stand around it.
Itâs really a dumb system and makes no sense. Why would anyone create ranked games that are 80% objective based, but not reward players for actually âplaying the objectiveâ?
Not to mention the ranking system makes no sense. I have a 75% win rate in my last 12 games and I have not moved at all. I inch up and then fall off a cliff.
Iâve tried to give this game so many chances, but 343 is just not listening to their every dwindling base of players.

I gave up at Diamond 4. I used to be Onyx in 5 but I donât think I can do it with my current reflexes lol.
