But I think people are conflating the situation where you take your MMR from bots into ranked for the first time on a new account. Here the MMR from bots is copied across into ranked and you get placement games accordingly.
The effect in this case is dramatic - but short lived (placement sorts out your actual rank pretty quickly).
I suspect the influence effect for established MMR’s is much softer.
We know each playlist shares some common data. But we don’t know what or with how much weighting. There have been some anecdotal posts of soft match making games - but we also know that match-making can jump around a bit - so it’s not exactly hard evidence.
I play social games with mates every Tuesday night. And I haven’t noticed any ranking up effect when I return to ranked games on Wednesday.
I would have thought we’d seen people using this method to take their accounts to Lucid-level by now. And plastered it all over YouTube.
The effects of squad manipulation, smurfing, and strategic quits are way more concerning.
As I said in my previous post… I suspect the effect is minimal. There is some shared data but each playlist still has it’s own offsets (eg. mean and width of the curve).
Most players would not notice it.
I guess the best evidence would be the more mature playlists of Halo 5. When you go into a series of placement games your MMR becomes volatile and swings wildly. If the different MMR’s were tightly connected then your opponents should swing wildly across all your playlists at the same time. And it didn’t.
Since the last update, you can’t take rank seriously anyway. Getting matched with brone, silver and gold guys (no smurf accs) at D5. It’s usually two high rank player and two low ranks… so it’s all about which high rank got to 25 kills first.
Pay no attention to him. I’ve had the same argument before… even pointing out you can’t go as a 4 stack on solo/duos and he still says it’s your fault for not going in pre made.
The man doesn’t have a clue what he is talking about. I’m certain he just hopes that 343 notice him or gives him a -Yoink!- and tongue avatar.
