Ranked is broken

You can ping now in Infinite. Mics are not that essential anymore. On Xbox, simply press Up on the D-pad. It’s a shame more people don’t use the ping feature - we now have the ability to mark things, for your entire team, with almost no effort.

I think the ping feature is a nice QOL addition, but truth be told when I see it and hear it I’m more confused by it than I am informed.

True, mics are not that essential (still better than mark obviously). The issue is barely anyone uses it. I use it a bit but whenever I do, it seems like no one takes action on it. TBH it’s one of the main reasons I would get an elite controller. I don’t want to have to take my thumb off the movement stick just to mark as often times when I mark I am already engaged with someone.

Mics also just make the game more enjoyable. I typically get most frustrated from a lack of coms from teammates so having someone in my ear that responds to what I am saying is awesome (and refreshing).

Been seeing nothing but how “ranked is too easy” while I get matched against cup players and lose every game.

Not that deep, if you start crying over a video game ur getting muted regardless

Oh for sure. If someone was whining and what not then I def would mute them too can’t blame anyone for that.

Though I think for most people if you hop on with mic, ask if anyone else has mic, no one responds and then every one goes in separate directions with no ping its just asking for an auto loss. Why would people play ranked that way. It just doesn’t make sense lol

As long as they require people to win ranked matches on challenges (looking at you Ultimate Challenge from this week), people are gonna keep quitting. I have played more than 20 matches and have only won 1, so I quit the rest if the only person going for the objective is me, while my teammates apparently are eating their buggers.

Can’t wait for FFA ranked. That was my easiest Onyx in Halo5.

Everytime I leave a match is because my game crashed.

I was literally about to make a post about how broken ranked is. I completely agree.

I am continuously being placed on terrible teams when I go in solo, despite having a high K/D ratio most matches and remaining focused on the objective. Almost no one uses mics. There are quitters or disconnects every other match, and my rank progression is often penalized dramatically for things out of my control. For objective modes, if you are down a single player, the win almost always goes to the full team. There’s no forfeit option, and matches that are lopsided tend to be fun for neither team (I’ve been on both sides of this, and always feel bad for the other team).

Add in to all this that it’s completely unclear how we are being matched, or even advancing. I’ll win games where I performed excellently and get very little progression. And then I’ll have other games where my team wins despite my lackluster performance, and then I’ll progress much further than I did on games where I performed well. Sometimes losses knock me down a ton, and wins barely move me forward. I’ve gone back and forth from Diamond 4 and Diamond 5 at least three times this week, and it’s very frustrating since most of this feels out of my control.

All that to say, ranked needs improvement, and bottom line I want it fixed because the game IS so much fun to play. My suggestions for fixing these issues:

  1. Allow players to select an option to be matched with teammates who have a mic / in game voice chat preference. I would happily check the box that says “I have a mic, and want to be matched with people who also have a mic.” OR, alternatively, if there is a way for the game to detect players who have mics based on input, the game should match us together.

  2. Don’t penalize the ranks of players who stayed the whole match, just because someone on the team disconnected or quit out of the game. It feels really unfair to those of us who are not quitting to be stuck on a team of 3 in a 3v4 CTF/Strongholds/Oddball match, and then to have our ranks drop dramatically because of something out of our control.

  3. Add a Forfeit option for teams with disconnects and quitters. It’s a waste of time for both sides if the game continues to go on and on, when both sides know who the clear winning / losing team of the match will be. My time doesn’t feel respected right now when this happens.

  4. Revise the ranking system so that teams are evenly matched. I’ve seen wacky combinations of Onyx, Platinum, Unranked etc all on the same opposing team, which has often led to matches feeling lopsided, unpredictable and unfair. If I’m a Diamond 4, I want to go against other Diamond 4’s, or at least Diamond 3’s and 5’s. Not an Onyx, Platinum 1, Gold IV and an Unranked player…

  5. Make losses in rank progression proportionate to wins in progression rank. Again, I don’t fully understand how rank progression works in this game, but it seems to me that a win should move it forward just as much as a loss moves it back. If there’s insistence on keeping progression gains losses where they are at now, then please explain how this works in-game to the general public.

  6. Reconsider making ranked challenges part of the challenge progression system. This week, there was an influx of players in ranked who do not care about serious competition, all trying to complete their challenges, which led to worse matchups and match experiences for everyone. I’ve had worse teammates this week than any previous week, and this is the only reason I can think of as to why.

  7. Make ranks visible next to the name of the player. This has been a feature in past Halo games, excluding CE as long as I can remember. Not only does it feel good to show off your rank, it helps to quickly see where people are at in their own progression.

  8. Show in-game who is speaking your team within the HUD. This makes it easier to remember and find a teammate after the match that you really got along with, rather than having to pull up the in-game scoreboard and waiting for a blip to appear next to someone’s name to figure out who is speaking. It would also help people know tactically who is talking during a match, in relation to the name-tag you see above teammates.

Hopefully there are dramatic changes coming to ranked soon. I hope this feedback will be heard, and want to make sure I’m offering up solutions rather than just lamenting. The game is great overall, and I really want this playlist to be really fun for everyone who wants to play competitively.

Mics are absolutely essential to coordinate. The ping system is nice, but it often isn’t utilized, and there’s so much information you can get with a mic that you cannot get from a ping (e.g., whether or not an enemy is absolute, whether they have rockets, the direction they’re going etc.)

When I have clip after clip. And when I say I’ll have clips I get such a hard on I go back through all their previous matches and takes clips of them just straight tracking people through walls pre-firing people through walls. And I have about 16 open reports that it’s been about two weeks and they’re still open and I have submitted like 15 clips each. Don’t come at me saying that there’s tools that can be utilized. It should never have been a problem to begin with. You get caught cheating on Xbox Bam your console ban. No new accounts go out and spend money to buy a new Xbox. You get banned on PC there’s workarounds And you’re right back to Cheating in five minutes on a new account. Because they failed to implement a root style anti-cheat. They don’t even have a report in game button. Utilize the tools so laughable.

Yet you have, here’s a link to continue to do so

https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403866308884-How-to-report-a-player

It’s entirely possible based on your experience that you might have been wrong in your deductions.

Regardless, no problems will be solved if you don’t do anything so please continue to do something if you have the means and tools to do something, as you do.

You’re absolutely correct that it should never have been a problem to begin with.

Root style anti-cheats aren’t as effective as you claim. Valorant claimed cheaters were impossible, and a week after launch it was proven to be false even to this day.

In game report functions would take the AI learning ‘anticheat’ to the next level by giving the AI something specific to actually examine rather than trying to piece through a desert of players and matches one grain of sand at a time. But nothing truly beats a traditional reactionary anti-cheat software system honestly. Which should be implemented along side the AI and an in game report function.

IMO, a community based investigatory system should be developed to educate registered experienced players to examine gameplay of suspected and reported cheaters, draw a conclusion and then compound the conclusions to decide whether the suspected player was cheating or not cheating. Then either exonerate the player or send the report off to the support team to examine the clip and officially make a call. This system works well in CSGO currently, and I think it would have a fitting place here.

To my knowledge only Activision games are issuing console bans as a common practice, very few other companies publicize this if they do. Console banning is not a common practice, but it should be.

Much like there’s workarounds on a console, like making new accounts as you can on PC. Because console bans aren’t as common as you make them sound, even though they should be.

PC isn’t some unique lawless wasteland you make it out to be my guy. There are ways to “permanently” ban players on PC as there are ways to “permanently” ban players on console.

Regardless of all of this, there are issues in ranked that can’t be addressed by player action (unlike reporting suspected cheaters which can be done and should be done). These issues need to be discussed so that they can be fixed and we can focus on other issues that need to be addressed (like cheaters).

I been doing great, now all of a sudden I’m in matches with people way above my skill level. So it’s just a back and forth of me being the best on my team for a bit then the worst for a bit . There is no balance for me . So frustrating

For how many players this game has, since it’s now free to play, there is some quite varied ranks in games.

I’m a few good performances away from hitting Onyx and I can quite often play with high platinum players. Naturally they’re out of their depth and get destroyed. Can’t even blame them for making us lose. Not a good experience for anyone.

There needs to be a limit to how players can pair up. I’ve paired a few times with my gold friend and I feel like I’m cheating. You rank up, just as much, for playing well even against Gold and Plat players as a high Diamond.

I almost never de-rank so the people complaining about it are flat wrong. The rank system is very generous and easily exploitable.

Nah, ping doesn’t replace a mic. Ping helps when someone doesn’t have a mic, but a red diamond on the screen will never replace “one shot, top mid” or “sniper in west tower”

At higher levels, mics are absolutely necessary if you don’t want to get destroyed in every single game.

Another problem with pinging is that it takes my thumb off the thumbstick, sometimes allowing the opponent to get off the first shot. Unless you make him miss a few shots, the firefight is as good as lost if you ping.

Love deranking after going 34-13 with 46 seconds of ball time in a win

As if your personal experience is the ultimate thing that makes everyone else “flat wrong”, coming from the person who feels like they’re cheating / exploiting the system? You do realize your opponents are de-ranking when they go against you and your Gold friend? Are their complaints not valid simply because you are winning?

You lucky lmao. I’ve been stuck in Platinum for a whole month

That sucks. It shouldn’t even be possible for a player to lose that often. Like clearly the game is giving your team the short end of the stick more often than not. I think I’ll stop complaining about my 35% win rate now.
