I’ve yet to see a single game do Ranked matches properly, and this one is no exception.
Ranked-based matchmaking has to be completely broken or non-existing; I’m constantly put on teams that have a few hours, tops, of gameplay
If I have the most points in my trash team I’ll still be penalised and my rank score drops (this is why matchmaking is CRUCIAL)
After someone leaves I’m also penalised if we lose; Being a team-based game, a single player leaving can completely change the outcome of the match
No real consequences for early quitting
Before everyone wines about “it’s just a game”: People playing in ranked want to take the game a bit more serious. Maybe if you have to attend to your kids every 20 seconds it’s not the best game mode for you.
Nevertheless, it SHOULD be a high-risk/high-reward game mode, but as it is right now, it’s pointless.
Yeah, I’m not happy with the matchmaking in Ranked either. I’m a gold player, high gold, but still gold. I feel the rank is about right. But most my matches are against all Diamond and high Platinum players. Sometimes I’ll get games against Silver and lower players. Rarely will I play against other gold players. It feels like most the time the matchmaking is picking winners and loser. And that’s not really as fun as it should be.
I almost entirely play against new accounts, it seems like. Some of whom are obviously cheating, and some are just clearly way more skilled than me. Lost like 15 games in a row yesterday. One game I wasn’t even really paying attention to 'cause it was really hard to care anymore, was chatting on Discord and stuff, lost, went 2/16 k/d, and went UP in rank. It’s just call kinds of broken.
A good step towards taking it more seriously and improving the quality of life for you would be finding some team mates. Playing alone sucks and you’ve illustrated all the known problems people face. It’s nothing new.
I play with friends for the sake of enjoyment, and team work. If they aren’t some amazing player I personally don’t care. I’d rather take that than some toxic annoying player that’s a random thinking he’s the all star mvp crying over the match or paired with someone who’s just not quite there yet game sense wise, and too scared to use their mic.
You can’t really expect much when you play with randoms and the results are random. It’s the nature of the beast. Leave their kids outa it. People will play what they want to play… get yourself some team mates. There’s more control over the situation than you think.
no, you are right about everything you said. however it seems people in these threads think ranked is in its perfect state and if you lose, it’s all your fault. i have also experienced your key points here and it is infuriating.
I don’t know what cross-dimension reality portal you’ve been peeking through, but I have not seen this sentiment expressed anywhere on this platform my guy.
The most common sentiment is that 3v4’s absolutely ruin the experience.
I’ve noticed incredibly strange misbalanced matchups between ranks. Stuff that really shouldn’t be happening in the competitive game mode.
I personally have no issue with lack of playtime if the ranks match up appropriately. But seeing as appropriate match ups are kind of hit or miss it definitely throws off the expectations.
It would be nice to know the ranks of both teams up front rather than in post stats.
Effort should be a factor in rank gains/losses.
I don’t see any scenario in which losses are negated/rewarded, but it would be nice to see solid effort reflected by loss alleviation to some capacity.
There needs should be a match confirmation period in which both teams certify they can play a match with a simple “yes” or “no”, along side a short warmup period (like CS) to ensure all players are connected before the match starts.
On top of this, a rejoin feature needs to be added. What’s worse than a crash that leaves your team down a player? A game that doesn’t even allow the player to rejoin the in progress match to try and redeem themselves in an adequate amount of time.
Bans and ban criteria really need to be made more clear. Perpetrators of this issue need to be dealt with harshly and swiftly.
Also “quitters” may not be actually quitting, but rather suffering from issues that caused them to drop. Again in which case a rejoin feature needs to implemented.
There are bigger issues that plague this mode that can’t be fixed by players, unlike player driven witch hunts.
Cheaters exist and there are official tools that can be utilized to report suspicious behavior. Use them.
I agree!
Don’t forget that, forced cross-play also have to go…console players are in a serious disadvantage what doesn’t really matter in non-ranked matches but in ranked ones, it’s a pain in the …
the biggest issue for me is the RP progression. It’s completely random. Makes no sense whatsoever. It used to be pretty simple in all other halos, but they did something to Infinite and it’s completely broken.
In this match, the opposite team was the favourite:

I absolutely destroyed the lobby. Got almost nothing at the end. My bar moved maybe 5% and that was it.
Next match, again the other team was favourite.

Multiple Onyx. We lost, still we managed to get a good fight and finished with a good KDA nonetheless. I was hoping for a little drop, but instead, I got 30-40% of my bar drop. Went back to D5! This is so messed up. Why am I grinding this??? why a single loss = 10 wins?
Servers for every region [US/EU/Asia(East/West)/Australia etc.] with server selection
Throw away the current ranking system [like play 10 matches to see in which rank you go]
Introduce back Skill Rank 1-50 from Halo 3. Everyone should start at the begin of a season from 1
Of course it could be really hard for PC players cause hackers can easily create a new account [but maybe we can avoide that with hardware ban?]
Also every games used that boring Bronze, silver to Diamond and Onyx system which is stupid.
Also it sucks that in the current system you are forced to play as a platin player agaisnt everything from bronze to Onyx. Like wtf.
Advantage of the old Halo 3 system was the following;
When you were Skill Level 15 the system will search for players between 10~20.
Except when you play like Team Slayer [Ranked]:
Player 1: Skill 30
Player 2: Skill 33
Player 3: Skill 9
Player 4: Skill 22
Here the system will search for player from Skill 24-33 [maximum of 10 levels lower from the player with the highest skill level.]
I get stuck with bad teams as well. I was doing great and my teams would consistently be well below me in terms of the whole silver/gold/platinum/diamond/onyx thing. I was plat 6 and nobody on my team was above plat 1. The other team was all diamond.
On top of this I have now been consistently put against 4 PC player teams. And sometimes will run into them separate after. So seems they are not running as a team together match to match. Game just pairing it that way.
The worst has been the last 2 days. Just cannot win. But then I cannot do well either. Taking me a lot more hits to get kills. Often they will drop shields and then just not die.
The experience can be pretty mixed that’s for sure.
In a free to play game second account abuse looks like it’s already a big problem, but this existed in Halo even when those accounts cost money.
The system seems to pull players with widely disparate experience levels into games(even according to easily accessible stats). Not sure why this is happening.
I am seeing quite a bit of quitting. Again, not sure why that’s happening. With no pregame lobby how can they be so sure they want to quit. Players know what game types are in the playlist, but you can’t inspect the other team ahead of time.
Still, I have a lot of good games. I think they do need some kind of ban for repeat offenders on the quitting thing though. Whether it’s a genuine quit or a disconnect shouldn’t matter after repeated quits.
