Ranked is awful

I spent about 3 hours playing ranked arena this evening and lost about 75% of my matches despite placing number one on my team about 75% of the time and when I wasn’t I was second. No matter how well I played we lost every single match and this pattern occurred roughly when I increased to gold 5.3 or 5.4 and the rank stayed glued there for about 2 hours. I was making great progress and pushed through gold 4 in about 2 matches but as soon as I hit 5.3/5.4ish it felt like I hit a feedback loop where every single match felt the same. I would place number one on my team often by a sizable margin but still get stomped all the same. My stat tracker says I lost 7 matches in a row in that period(not sure how accurate it is, says I was 8th my last match of the night when I was 1st on my team). And before that streak of 7 losses I think I had one or two wins mixed in with a few losses and I didn’t increase rank one bit after wins either. Worst experience I’ve ever had in a halo game by a mile, no matter what I did it was futile, I lost anyways. I’m not sure if anything will change but if nothing does I’m probably going to put the game down, no point spending 3 hours of my evening being miserable.

Any thoughts? Anyone experiencing anything similar? Is it possible it’s a really obscure bug in matchmaking? It’s uncanny how every match seemed to have the same exact result. It’s also odd it never decreased when I had about a 10% winrate.

If you’re solo queuing, it’s always a good idea to try and get a temporary buddy during your first couple games. If you send down invites out after a game to the other one or two players who seemed like they knew what they were doing, sometimes they’re also solo queuing and they’ll join up for a couple games.

Your chances to win go up a ton even if you can just guarantee one other player on your team who knows the spawns and power positions

Ranked is a complete joke, you’re right. I have no idea what is wrong with it but it is just a grind, you can lose over and over and it doesn’t matter, or you can win and carry the team and it doesn’t matter. I have a feeling it’s nothing like a true skill rank but rather some bs grind till you’re onyx rank

I honestly wish there was a playlist with the ranked settings but wasn’t ranked. I don’t want to stress over the outcome of the match so much nor how my friends will feel about a loss. I grinded halo 5 and it had its highs and lows with an insane amount of frustration within that experience. This time I want to just play the game purely for fun, but I don’t like the quick play settings.

I just played ranked and had one player leave the first game, three the second, and two the last game. That string of players just leaving the game ruined the experience for me and it will be a while before I go back.

I’m surprised reading some of these comments. I’ve had a TON of fun in the solo/duos playlist so far. It is definitely a grind though.

As a long time ranked vet, I will say you should completely avoid the open playlist unless you have a party of 3+

Same, I have had a blast and I’ve definitely gained and lost rank at various points and the amount has differed so it is definitely changing based on individual match circumstances. I’ve just hit Onyx rank. You get a nice little Recon Helmet weapon charm for your troubles.

I would just say being top of the team consistently isn’t always the important thing to do. If you’re doing that constantly and losing then you’re either unlucky and obviously that streak will end, or you aren’t playing as a team player. The most valuable thing you can do is ensure your team win by helping them any way you can, that means controlling the power weapons and giving them support. If a player is dying over and over, then unless they’re constantly doing stupid pushes it usually is because they are getting 2v1’d or killed by power weapons, or can’t win their 1v1s (happens to us all), they just need a little extra help this game. Of course, you also can’t always win so don’t worry it happens.

Whoever is doing well on the other team should also be a target, put them in your pocket so they can’t terrorise your poor teammates.

happens a lot, either we start with 1 less, some one crashes mid game, seen a lot posts, cry about crashing the game, when cramping their video settings to max and wonder why they can not run it.

Just played 5 ranked games and it was not fun at all. My teammates were either doo doo and did not play objectively or someone quit. I have to take a break from this game.

Infinite’s …interesting ranked balancing when solo-queuing has inspired me to never play ranked again unless it’s for a challenge. (;′⌒`)

17 freaking minutes of ctf and it ends in a draw…
The game rules at the moment make the matches very slow and boring with almost no weapon or game play variety, just a BR fest with an occasional sniper god.

I just finished my 10 games for the stupid achievement, despite not being able to hit a damn thing with the BR and losing most of the games, I still got a platinum rank.

I never played much any of 343 ranking system, is it just a grind for Oynx is it actually a decent way to get close level players together and have some even matches?

You can’t solo queue and expect to win more than 40% of the time. Ranked is for team queuing. Or at least duo queuing.

The games are a bit hit and miss still but have been mostly even. Will be better when everyone is ranked, but so far a lot of my games have been really close.

You can definitely solo queue and do really well still.

You must be lucky then. Every time I solo queue in ranked I get paired with brain dead morons who have never played another shooter let alone halo.

That has happened too, but I just play my best and move onto the next game. Some games cannot be won. As the system is trying to balance the team the difference to determine the win will be the players playing at a skill level above their current rank. Sometimes that is the enemy team and sometimes it’s you or your teammates.

Of course luck can swing either way but once you play enough games, it all averages out. Plenty of inexperienced opponents to balance out your teammates

I do urge people to see ranked as a way to get closer and more consistent games than social rather than aiming to always increase rank. That can be fun but shouldn’t determine on whether or not the game was enjoyable. I’ve had some very good losses than really came down to the wire.

8 out of 9 of my -Yoink!- ranked matches today someone has left on my team. I am 11 and 23 for quitters. I have not seen a single enemy leave. I am so sick and tired of my stats being -Yoink!- because of this.

Sounds like you’ve settled into to your ranked ability  That’s the purpose of ranked games. You don’t increase rank every game. It finds your skill level and puts you with players of a similar level. Get some more practice in, maybe with the quick play list, so you aren’t stressing about it, and go back for more ranked play later to see if you’ve improved

That’s where your wrong I wasn’t settling into my ranked ability, I shot up two ranks to platinum today. The matchmaker was still incredibly broken, we had a team consisting of all golds versus a team of platinums and one gold…

Sometimes it has to do that because there aren’t enough people searching at that level to get a game in an acceptable timeframe.

Could also be because players have a different hidden MMR than their shown CSR.
