Played a couple of games of ranked FFA and it’s honestly an awful experience. I’m constantly getting third partied every kill and that’s not even factoring in the 80ms ping.
I loved Lone Wolves in Halo 3, it was my highest ranked playlist (40) and I always come 1st or 2nd on my team in Quick Play within Infinite.
Ranked FFA is a different story. I’m getting clapped left, right and centre. I don’t even know what’s to blame, bad spawns? Small maps? Lag? I don’t know but I thought it’d be better than this.
Primary reasons why I don’t like FFA in general and maybe it’s just with this game but the third party killing is out of hand. I stated in another thread that I feel like the reason FFA is so bad in this game is that the maps are too small and the spawns are awful. They will literally spawn you straight in someones running path or with someone looking straight at you ready to shoot. Also with the spawns you can literally check a corner and it be empty but as soon as you take five steps away they will spawn someone in that exact spot so they can just start shooting you in the back.
I agree, 100%. I’ve played about 4 dozen ranked FFA matches so far and I can safely say I use this game type specifically to warm up. ONLY to warm up. Not for “fun”. And even then it’s a chore because:
Maps are too small
Spawns
Lag/Desync ( I play on wired connection; Ping is primarily between 10 and 23; Example: I walk over grenades to pick them up, the game registers this about 0.5 to 1 second AFTER walking over them )
A year after release and the game is still barely playable (most would even argue that).
I want to support this game so badly, which is why I stick around (Halo CE OG). It’s just becoming harder which each passing day to support 343 and their continued destruction of this IP
Idk that’s how ffa has always been. The guy who wins ffa is usually the guy who picks up the most double kills on 2 guys who were dueling. Been that way as long as I can remember, surprised you don’t remember that in h3.
I love FFA for the wrong reason
I use it to warmup with the BR for ranked,
Don’t care where I finish or my score it gives me the chance for long and short range battles
And gives me the chance to change and play with any settings.
Does anyone here have tips for FFA? I’ve only played a couple of games and did ok-ish. I’ve never really played it before.
There were a couple of really good posts about the difference in the way you play FFA vs Teams here on Waypoint circa early H5 - but I can’t find them.
I remember someone saying your priority of spawn is to find a safe spot (not someone to shoot at). And if you don’t think you are definitely going to win an engagement - cut your losses and get out of there (there is no help coming).
