I have noticed that I am a silver being paired with diamonds and platinum. I don’t know if this is a fairness balance because the silver are going to constantly die form the diamond and the diamond is going to carry. It is worse that the ranking are based if your team wins or not. Is it just me?
This is often directly related to population scarcity at the time of your search. The age of the game doesn’t help either.
The matchmaker initially attempts to find only players that are around your skill level with an acceptable connection ping (per your selection preference: Focused, Balanced, & Expanded) to create a match, but if it can’t do that it’ll start to expand the acceptable skill levels in order to find more potential players. As it does this it also must keep in mind the need to maintain as much team-to-team balance too. A player with a skill level that’s much higher than the team average that’s being put together will require the system to seek out an offsetting below average player in order to prioritize maintaining as much team balance as possible. This is why a silver may get paired with diamonds and platinums.
It’s true that the silver player is likely to die at higher rates given the skill levels within the match, but that’s expected and part of the match’s balance. Sucks to be the silver from a slaying perspective, but if the silver can find enjoyment with the team’s goal of winning instead of their own K/D stats then it shouldn’t be a massive negative. A potential silver-lining is that it basically forces the silver player to recognize what they’re up against and to make small enough improvements in order to achieve the goal of winning as the primary objective. They don’t have to focus on carrying the team since it’s not really expected of them. They just need to do what they can to help achieve the goal. The tough part is when a team losses and there’s some poor sports who then lash out at the silver for dragging them down. That’s just bad sportsmanship by people who likely are taking the game too seriously.
