Ranked csr gain/loss confusion

So I tried to go from unranked to onyx in crossplay in one night. At first my lobbies were downright silly because it was using my btb mmr and putting me against the 1750-2000+ range every game (Slight speculation but i think this is a thing). Obviously then i’m bringing my team down and not winning much anyways since i’m like a 1500-1650 kinda guy. It balances the team thinking i’m better than i am so our team ends up being somewhat weaker overall.

Now the csr confusion is because despite me losing games much more than I won, I didn’t lose csr once in my 30 games after placement. Some of these games I got absolutely destroyed, yet still lost nothing. Wins would still give me the “normal” amount of csr. Something like 10 to 15 csr i think.

Now finally in the last like 7ish matches, I was playing in lobbies around my skill level. When I lost, i’d still lose nothing. When i won, I’d only get 3 csr no matter where i was on the scoreboard from positions 1-4. I don’t have enough time to get 40 more csr this morning before work at a rate of 3 per win so i gave up.

Basically the no csr loss and the reduced csr gain are what I’m finding odd and i’m wondering if someone more well-versed in the inner-workings of this system could tell me what’s up. Sorry if this makes no sense or is stupid, I’m tired as hell lmao.

I did notice that games with quitters barely affect your csr which is great, but there weren’t quitters in every game.

No sense in mucking around!

Any ‘silliness’ is your MMR being volatile again. It is made wider and is free to jump around again. This continues through placement and a bit after.

And it would use your crossplay MMR from last season as the starting point. The only time it needs to borrow another MMR is the first time you play in a new playlist.

At this stage your MMR is much higher than your CSR.

So it goes up easily - but resists going down.

This is not unusual post placement. It’s mostly due to the width of your curve (the CSR starts to the left hand side) - but there is also a max you can start with, which is Diamond 3 I think.

This suggests your MMR and CSR are now very close.

This is where your hard work begins. You have to push your MMR up so that the CSR can follow.

And the CSR jumps doesn’t take into account personal performance. So your position doesn’t help in this step.

If you are killing and dying better than expected (see your Waypoint stats) then your MMR can be nudged up in the background and this will help your CSR in the next game or two.

Good work. And good luck…
