The easy way to fix team composition letting people farm easy wins is to only use the highest skill player on the team to find games. Many games do this.
So if the lowest ranking player on the team way silver and the highest was onyx you would only join onyx lobbies not a middle ground between the 2. This would mean that unless you are an absolute unit that can straight up hard carry someone you won’t be getting easy wins.
Right? What visible rank you’re in you should match against that division. If you’re higher skilled then you’ll make it to the next division and make your way through the current one (if lower). That way you aren’t in diamond playing high onyx every game just trying to make it to onyx. Matching off the visible rank would be better imo.
The other side has two issues to contend with. One is a boring match where they dominate. The other is that they won’t get a chance to rank up as they won’t be playing a side of equal or higher rank.
I see another 2 problems. Lets say for example an onyx player and a gold player team up (so a team of 2):
the 2 players (both Onyx or diamond since it’s based on the highest players) that are being put with them are also getting punished for that decision, since they will be put in a probably unwinnable match and will get CSR deducted because of that.
if it’s based on the highest rank, that onyx player probably just will go on a smurf account and the enemy team will get punished for it (remember, the suggestion was to do that system as a replacement for the current, so no 25 matches needed before you can play ranked. And even if he did play 25 social matches, he still wouldn’t have a CSR yet. so that gold player is then higher)
Okay you are right, keep the 25 matches and yeah some matches will probably be unwinnable but that is the price the vastly higher player must pay to play with low rank friends. It is ranked after all and shouldn’t be played casually just because people like the starting weapons.
I would personally add another rule. No queueing without a full team. Destiny trials did this and it insures you aren’t getting hurt by non dedicated players. I know this rule is a bit tough but its ranked after all and should be a very competitive mode.
But then people can still not play with friends if it isn’t with 3
So not realy a full ‘fix’.
Personally, i would say let everybody search solo, so that you can never have a team advantage above the enemy team (yes, i know, unpopular opinion) and your actual skill will determine the outcome and not if your a pre-made team or not.
See this is ranked and you have a team though, coordinating is part of the strategy. In real sports you can’t play a game if you don’t have a full team. This isn’t a pick up game, that’s what the casual modes are for so only full team queueing is the best possible option.
If you can’t get a full team there is LFG and the Halo discord. As i mentioned Destiny did it this way for Trials and it leads to people making new friends and no one gets hurt by people who aren’t dedicated to win.
I get this keeps a lot of players who are not into team play out of ranked but thats how it should be. Also all the more reason to have a ranked free for all mode.
I can see splitting it. I think Rocket League tries to do it this way.
As for challenges, those are a while seperate issue with the xp system. Xp gains should be purely based off of performance and wins. I guess if you want to give some for completing a match you can do that too. But the way it works now is crap as people who are trash at the game still get the same reward as those who are good and that should never happen. But thats off topic here.
All I know is, ill grind for hours getting my rank up, only to lose it all (40%) in one match. It feels like such a waste of time. Especially when Im diamond 4 and the other team has 3 onyx and I go down substantially.
This does actually fix one of the big problems with CSR - the way you oscillate around your rank. You, know, grinding up a few points with some wins and then losing it all on the next loss.
Doesn’t have to be 1-50. Could by 1-100. Or even, as someone else once suggested, 1-117.
They could even keep the current divisions and tiers. Just make it 10 tiers per division. Bronze 1 to Onyx 10. That would essentially make it 1-60.
But as @Super87Ghost mentions… it does nothing to change the match making.
You will need to be more specific.
TrueSkill2 > TrueSkill1 >> whatever H2 did.
Most people refer to H3 as the “good old days”. But that system was -yoink-. With 20 hidden levels, an artificial XP grind, and rank locking to the point of having to start a new account to make any progress. And that’s before we talk about the market for selling ‘50’ accounts.
The ranking system is fine. It’s the way CSR is presented that is the problem.
I think that the June Servicepack (June Drop Pod) is the better way to match the teams. It matches player within a defined skill /csr range together.
This will be much fairer for player who join solo in ranked. It may need some tweaking, but i prefer this way.
The idea I had for awhile now would be to have an on screen notification.
"Attention - rank discrepancy within the current team is too high. CSR gains will be minimal, while CSR losses will be unchanged "
Which would cause any wins to become token wins of 1 csr point, while any losses serve the normal penalty. Any team that faces this team would not gain that much from a win either, however would not lose hardly anything for a loss. This imo, would do 2 things.
allow people to still assemble teams of friends that may not be close in skill range.
discourage people who deliberately used this as a loophole to abuse the MM
Your idea works as well, but if it is legitimate players that are actually friends whom don’t actually care about their rankings and just want to play together with the ranked settings, those matches would be severely unbalanced say if the low ranked players were truly those of that skill level. Which in my scenario, would increase the accuracy of those players actually being of that skill level since the fake accounts would give their benefactors absolutely nothing even if they decided to perform to their true skill for the sake of the win. They’d get a token CSR point. Nothing more. Which consequently would cause the fake accounts to stop being used by a good percentage I’d imagine.
I could be wrong though idk. In reality, as far as how easy it would be to like set up these new settings I’d imagine your idea to be easier. Scale the matches up…but the problem I see if that the matches some algorithm based off of total mmr of the team. Would the “fix” be to basically give any low account the same mmr as the highest player? Idk how pracfical any of this really is. Like maybe whatever they decided to do was still the best first step to take. Idk.
