Ranked/Competitive Issues/Conerns

Am I the only one that doesnt love the rigidity in what they have done with Ranked/Competitive Games? Maybe its just due to being a beta, but right now my biggest issues are:

  1. I know a lot of people like BR start, I never have, I always though the the AR was the Halo defining weapon, but I get why they put it that way, but could there not be alternative ranked playlists which dont have BR stars, radar, etc?

  2. The fact that you cant have a premade group and not play against M&K players on console is dissapointing. M&K has such a huge advantage.

  3. Ranked badly needs seperated playlists. Being able to get into a Slayer match every 10 games isnt ideal

  4. Not enough weapon pick ups in current maps (I am willing to concede that maybe I need to look harder)

I like forcing objective games for ranked. A ranked player should be skilled at map movement and team coordination, not just an aim god. Social obviously needs a slayer only list.

Why not have Slayer, and Objectives seperate? People are supposed to enjoy playing games, and when they get put into objective games they dont want to play, a lot of them really still just focus on killing, not the objectives. It kind of defeats the purpose of those who want to play for the objectives and not for upping their KDA

Slayer should be separate… in social. That’s what I said.

While I do like having seperate playlists for Slayer and Objective, I can agree that maybe we can have a ranked playlist that mixes them together. The weighting on slayer in the game pool it chooses from could be higher though, IMO. Maybe like 30-40% Slayer would be a good balance.

Im referring to in ranked play as well.

Sure, not a bad idea. Even if they upped the Slayer % in the playlist it would help a lot I think.

Slayer in ranked is boring at high levels as everyone is obviously good at aiming. Getting kills while working the objective raises the skill ceiling and also opens up more variety in the map instead matches being static around power weapon spawns. Take Valorant for example, always objective, but you can win via eliminations vs bomb plant. You have 2 paths to victory there.

Honestly, I love both objectives and slayer game types, but somtimes I just want to play slayer. Having a good group for objective is great, but doesnt always work well with a bunch of randoms who dont want to be playing objectives. Its just personal preference, but I imagine more enjoy playing straight slayer then objectives.

I agree, but ranked slayer is a bit of an oxymoron. Social slayer makes way more sense if you want to just frag out with the boys.

Not really, people who want to be the best at killing people in Halo want to play it, its not like this is new. Slayer Ranked has existed in all the previous Halo games.

Watch some pro level slayer vs objective and you tell me what is more entertaining.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind ranked being separated into different gamemode playlists, I absolutely do not like strongholds but that’s pretty much all I get, I would rather play slayer especially if I’m solo queueing.

You do realize people are playing the game. not watching? Its a bit different story there. A lot of people enjoy a lot of different things, and the largest population of players in Halo games has always been slayer. Its not just about your preference.

Nothing wrong with giving players what they want, it is a game afterall

I want to see FFA Ranked again so bad it hurts! Praying for it to get some love from 343i. If they at least mention FFA playlists (preferably ranked, please!) I think that it would help with boosting the player population for it simply due to making semi frequent mentions that it exists. I blame the Esports Professional gamer mentality for causing FFA interest to fade. Everyone wants to watch streams of their favorite ā€œteamsā€ as well as keep up with teams like it’s a reality show. While so many of these ā€œspectatorsā€ could instead become players who could potentially end up actually LOVING the pacing and chaos of FFA. In FFA, the results are all up to you and you alone rather than worrying if your teammates suck or that they’re going to quit out. I know my nostalgia for FFA Lockout and Midship as well as many other fantastic FFA maps that are rarely mentioned. Turf was/is awesome too.
Unpopular opinion here but since day one, I’ve always thought that Blood Gulch/Coagulation etc were complete trash as team maps. Valhalla was actually really good… And going back further to when Blood Gulch was the defacto ā€˜king’ of large scale Halo:CE maps (it wasn’t called Big Team Battle yet until H2), but Sidewinder and Hang em High were so much better than Gulch. And in Halo 2 there were so many big team maps that destroyed ā€˜Coagulation’ (Blood Gulch V1.5). Zanzibar, Waterworks, Terminal and one could argue even Colussus and Burial Mounds were well polished and the amount of playtesting done on those maps was hard to miss because sightlines were done extremely well. Yeah, screw Blood Gulch and it’s offspring. But please, bring back the glory of FFA! It hasn’t worked well in so long because it’s apparent that time isn’t being spent making FFA maps as fun and frantic as they once were and if some attention were to be given to these small/mid sized maps with respect to FFA styles then I have a very positive feeling that we could have a revival of sorts considering whether people decide to start playing more often than watching other people play.

While I have dozens of complaints with this game, I actually think the ranked playlist is good. A ranked pool should have all the game modes it currently has mixed together. Social is another story though. I personally would like to see more ranked types though, such as ranked SWAT. I also want to see a 4 person group option for KB/M and controller instead of just solo/duo. Also better servers my gosh. I’ve been shot around corners a dozen times now and I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve thrown a grenade moments before death just for the slow tick rate servers not to register it.

AR defines halo for the social player, which is why you see BR/precision starts in every competitive setting
