Ranked arena question

The games super fun…the community is always toxic…I mean…the gaming community in general for any FPS is 95% toxic.

Yet another reason why I don’t play Rank Matchmaking anymore.

  1. It isn’t fun.
  2. It’s not about just winning the game.
  3. I get multiple wins and then I get match up with players that don’t care about the objective which makes me lose.
  4. It’s the same gameplay as social.
  5. There’s no extra reward for participating in Rank Matchmaking.

If I am understanding your explanation correctly; I would do best to only enter Ranked Arena in with a similarly skilled group, then disregard objectives and go for KPM as my primary goal. With unstable jitter, desync, and matchmaking that is wildly variable in terms of the skill we get matched against, this means that 90% of my time in Ranked Arena is a waste time as I am always waiting to be matched against a team of higher skill only to hope our connection is on par with them. This seems to drive players into a playstyle seen in competing FPS where speed and kills are paramount over teamwork, communication, or objectives. Correct me if I am wrong.

Which I don’t think you are.

Correct.

You are always going to play better in a co-ordinated group of complementary skilled players.

As opposed to three random strangers who may not even be on mics.

Nope. Never even came close to saying anything like that.

Aim is to win. Period. And you can’t do that by disregarding the objective.

KPM is the primary metric for personal performance though. But it’s only a weighting. It’s useless with out the “W”.

That’s up to you.

Pretty much everyone is currently in the same boat. Low population and expanded region searches. etc.

Hopefully it will be better from next week.

Consider yourself corrrected.

Winning is the key. And the team who is communicating and working together to secure the objective are going to win.

Darwi, I appreciate how thoroughly you try to understand 343’s convoluted ranking system, though I do not think you are firmly grasping the effect it has on the game. Connection speed and abuse of meta are what actually drive a player’s rank.
I’ve been playing since CE, I bought an Xbox just to play Infinite because they brought Joe back. With stick drift on a new controller, consistent 150 ping, and being paired with underskilled (or overskilled) players the experience is not about how well you do against someone or a team of like skill.

The entire experience is frustrating and does not reflect how good a player may be at playing Halo- if we can call the leftover mechanics of H3 and the good parts of H5 a Halo game.

It’s really not that convoluted. 343 have just done a very poor job at explaining it.

There are lots of variables that go into your the final product of your performance.

The ranking system can’t account for them. It just can’t. So it can only go on what you contribute to the W or L.

I’m sure everyone would better player in a LAN set up with new equipment. But that not the reality of online gaming.

This is a bit different.

You kind of have to think of having two ranks.

One is your solo with three randoms rank. It’s a mixed bag. Good and bad. But you will always be struggling with establishing a team dynamic.

And the other is your squad rank. Especially if you have a bunch of mates who communicate clearly, and have complementary play styles.

And your overall rank will summarise how much you play in either.

But again, your rank isn’t hyper focused on your individual skill. You would need a 1v1 playlist to establish that. It’s your individual rank of how you function in a team of 4.

Some people are genuine lone wolves. Others thrive in a team dynamic.

We can.
