Ranked Arena - Down Ranked For winning and being MVP

CTF on Bazaar, tied in the core part of the match leading into overtime for us to score and win the match 4-3, with me having 12.3 KDA and the rest of my team was around 5. I really felt on my A game and was nearly halfway through Diamond 5, I felt like I was peaking in skill to be down ranked to Diamond 4. This is incredibly disheartening, and I’m interested to know if this has happened to anyone. Also, what isn’t helping is the constant tough of war to go in and out of diamond 5 due to constant crashes, I don’t get why a game crash can’t be detected over someone abandoning/ alt-f4 raging because they’re bad and need to get gud. I would upload to images, put my account is too new.

I hate how the new ranked arena ranking is working, it’s like even if I go 20 kills 8 deaths or some good ratio.

If I lose the match I get deranked, it makes no sense to me because I can’t control how the 3 other players on my team perform.

I understand if ranked was FFA but it’s not, and these new mechanics are so strictly based off win or lost. Ranking up is almost impossible

Yeah this is still happening.
Youtube: Project Zell I made a video on it, documenting what I think is happening.
I also filed a ticket with 343i on these forums and was told the issue was revolved but it’s still occuring.

What’s your gamertag? Genuinely interested to have a look. You shouldn’t have lost much, if any, CSR with a loss. Unless your MMR was way out of sync with your CSR. But even then, -15 should be around the limit.

Crashes and quitters can really sour the experience. So frustrating.

Hopefully their S2 update fixes a lot of the crashes.

I think images are only open to mods.

It’s a team game. Your rank is your team rank (how well you roll as a team).

The weighting has to be W/L over any personal performance.

Think of any team game. In the Superbowl the best player on the losing team gets nothing… but the worst player on the winning team still gets a ring.

Yep. Ranked FFA would be great.

And yes, in team ranked you are eventually going to get squeezed by good players running in organised teams. You will hit a wall eventually. You may need to organise some players.

I think there are some genuine gripes with the ranking system but complaining about going down rank after a loss isn’t one of them.

The problem with infinite is it’s based too much on personal performance and not enough on winning as a team.

I had a session two nights ago. 7 wins, 4 losses, K/D ratio of 1.45, top scorer on my team 7 of those games, and my rank increased all of about 3 pixels. I do not understand how Halo is calculating their ranking system but it’s not making me happy.

  1. Win / Loss.
  2. Relative rank of opponents (and team mates?).
  3. Shape of your MMR curve (wide and volatile vs narrow and stable)
  4. Personal performance (K/min more than K/D).
  5. CSR vs MMR.

All of these can all push and pull on how much your rank changes.

But generally, if you go on a run of wins and don’t rank up - the chances are that you have just beaten a bunch of teams ranked lower than you. You have to play and beat sides that are ranked higher than you to rank up.

And if you, or your squad, are top of the food chain on your local server, you probably won’t get a lot of games where you are a genuine underdog.
