This topic is not to oppose The arena or 1 - 50 leveling system. I just want to have a viable ranked vs social playlist. Ranked: Team Slayer : Team Objective : Team Doubles : Team Snipers : Ranked FFA : Team SWAT : MLG : Ranked BTB. As for social all or most of the playlist in ranked should be in social. This splits the population of the playlist, but not everyone wants to play level 50 Team slayer. Some people want to enjoy themselves in a more relaxed playlist.
I also believe rank should be shown across all playlist, Just as it has been in the other Halos. This will allow people to at least see what they’re up against in the pre-game lobby. No so much to show off as it is more of a comparable skill base of those in the lobby. << Please disregard this portion of the thread. The whole purpose of this thread is to discuss a split ranked/social playlist. I won’t delete this portion of the post because I believe it is correct; however, some people and you know who you are, can’t discuss this reasonably.
Note: This topic is not meant to show bias towards either leveling system or how actual rank is attained. That is another topic all together, so please don’t grill me with comments such as, “arena sucks 1 - 50 is better”. I’m hoping 343i realizes this and takes action to adjust its matchmaking playlist for Halo 4.

No. Skill based ranks should only be visible to yourself, or not at all.
their should be a skill filter thats what reach kinda failed at. I have a good KD but im always stuck with not so good people and all the good people are on the other team and I pretty much have a loss coming my way

Why?? I want to know what I’m up against, also most people with good ranks would want to show off their status.
> their should be a skill filter thats what reach kinda failed at. I have a good KD but im always stuck with not so good people and all the good people are on the other team and I pretty much have a loss coming my way
I have this same problem, I don’t think this is a balance issue though because I started having this problem when my internet was downgraded, when I had high speed I was usually one of the top 2 people on the stats, once I got low speed it suddenly felt like my team always sucked and the other team was awesome and now I’m usually around the middle or the bottom of the stats.
For ranked playlists, there should not be a duplicate playlist. It not only causes a split between playlists, but in the long run has more problems than fun.
Say you do this:
Ranked Team Slayer 4v4
Ranked Team Objective 4v4
Ranked Free for All 8-players
Ranked Big Team Battle 12-16
Ranked MLG 4v4
Then some niche stuff like Swat and Snipers. As for unranked, it can go:
Team Training - grab bag playlist with both slayer, flag, and assault. It does NOT track any cumulative stats nor does it reward EXP or cR for any armor permutations.
Rumble Pit - FFA unranked, again no recording stats or awarded EXP or cR.
Multi Team - unranked team games, consists of slayer, objectives and does not keep track of stats.
Grifball/Action Sack - silly side games, no stats recorded, no EXP or cR credited.

Getting rid of visible ranks will, IMO, get rid of a LOT of the incentive to cheat, boost, sell accounts, or do other actions that skew the distribution of Trueskill ranks. I want everyone to be as close to their trueskill as possible to allow for the best possible match ups. I also don’t like getting cheated.
You should be able to tell what you are up against by your skill level. If you are level 25 on a 1-50 scale, it is easy to say that the majority of the time you will be up against level 25’s, especially if all the mentioned factors are not skewing the trueskill distribution.

Visible rank is probably one of the most important aspects of a modern competitive game.
yeah 343 should do it like in Halo 2 and 3,there is a playlist for people who love to play for fun and a playlist for people who love to play for skill, just like in Halo 3

Some people got the point of this post others apparently didn’t. All I want is a divided ranked and social playlist. <<PERIOD… Some tryhard, others do not. Let both sides have what they want so there is less to complain about. As far as ranking shown across all of the playlist, that’s IMO what gives incentive to tryharder, “IF” it is something you care about. If not then whatever play social and fun.

It also gives incentive to cheat, boost, sell accounts, start new accounts, etc…
Wow someone is really not getting it. I don’t care about the actual rank. I just want divided playlist so the community can play in the comfortable environment. I’ll make it easy, just disregard the part of the post where it talks about rank because clearly some people can’t stay on topic. The discussion about rank/boosters/cheaters is another topic all together and will be seperated from the main focus of this thread.

In YOUR OP, you clearly stated how you want ranks to be VISIBLE across all playlists.
And what do you mean disregard the part where you talk about ranks…your whole OP is about ranks.
You want ranked vs social, and you want ranks to be visible. I disagreed with ranks being visible. How is that not on topic?
Splitting the user base is probably not the best course of action. 343i should adopt a more unifying approach: so people that want to be ‘ranked’ can get their thrills right along side the players that just want to have a good game.
How exactly you do that in Halo I have still not developed a theory on, but I’m sure it can be done.
AFAIK, Starcraft 2 has no such ranked/social divide.
> Clearly you don’t want to rationally discuss the thread.
Ok, mister, disregard and misunderstand every post I make.
> Although there is no arguement, if you really can’t see how what I’ve brought up is a better system then you lack intelligence. A split playlist would help the community. As far as ranks go who cares about boosters and cheaters, I have personally only been legitimatley cheated in about 8 of 8000 games. Honestly cheating is not a rampant problem in Halo. All you want to do is argue. Amazing how thousands of people prefer the system I’m purposing or for that matter shouldn’t even have to purpose because it’s clearly the better option. What ever your hang up might be with whatever I said, I dont care because I’m correct and you’re just incompetent.
The system you’ve proposed is exactly the same as H2 H3, and sort of Reach’s. It is also something I want. I never said I didn’t want a split system and I never said I didn’t want ranks, you just have the reading comprehension of a 4th grader.
> Now obviously nothing said here will get through to you because you’re convinced what you have to say is correct. Well I don’t care what you think because I know I’m right. Please don’t post on this thread anymore because your ignorance is staggering.
lol, you “know you’re right.” Actually, you don’t even know what I am arguing, so how do you know you’re right?
I want a ranked category and a social category in Halo 4. In the ranked category, I want there to be the 1-50 system like Halo 3, but I want it to be invisible to everyone but yourself. What that will do is get rid of the incentive for a lot of behaviors that skew the distribution of trueskill ranks, thus allowing for better matches between players and less cheating and boosting.

Splitting the user base is exactly how you allow people that want to be ranked to get their thrills right alone side the players that just want to have a good game. How else would you do it?
If you somehow had social slayer and team slayer combined, but filtering out the players that wanted to be ranked and the players who just want to have a good game, you would still be splitting the user base. Might as well just have 2 separate playlists.
