What if 343 kept the ranked TS but just added a social TS? It’s just adding one more playlist, I don’t think it would split the population that much. I could be wrong, though.
I’m the kind of player that sometimes wants a more competitive experience, but other times just wants to relax. I can see both sides of the argument about TS and whether it should be ranked or social. I really don’t know why there can’t be both? Maybe this is not realistic, but I’m just making a suggestion.
Why?
If you want to play ranked you have HCE, H2,H3 etc
If you want social, play TS.

I second this. Yes, it sucks for those people who have been grinding for countless hours trying to reach rank 50, but ranks should only be reserved for game-specific playlists in my opinion. The reason being that TS is a cross-game playlist and each game is different in their own right. It is much more difficult to rank up in a cross-game playlist than a game-specific one like, say, H2C. I play better on H:CE and Halo 2 Classic. The other games I’m not the best at and will probably have a high chance of losing a match if they are chosen.
In short, cross-game playlists can be detrimental to those who are more proficient with some games more than others. Game-specific playlists will allow players to excel at the games that they are comfortable with; and if they want to learn how to play the others, there’s a playlist for that, too.
On the other hand, I suppose a cross-game playlist would make ranking up more challenging. I can see how this would appeal to the competitive crowd, but, that’s just an idea. Not sure if it’s true.
Anyhow, 343 can’t please EVERYBODY. People are going to gripe no matter what. I personally prefer TS to be a social playlist for the points I made above.
But, in the end, to each their own.

This isn’t for me, it’s for the people who are very upset that ranked TS is being removed. I’m fine with ranked or social TS. I just know that there’s people who really don’t like the removal of ranked TS. I know, what you commented is what 343’s intention is and I’m totally OK with it. Like I said, this post isn’t for me, it’s a suggestion for a compromise.
I would just like to know why 343 would put it in just to take it out? Do they not plan ahead? If they didn’t want this playlist to be ranked then couldn’t they have simply NEVER MADE IT RANKED?

I believe it’s a response to feedback. They must have seen that many people were unhappy with ranking in a cross-game playlist. That’s my best guess.
I do agree that they could have planned it a bit better, but I still don’t understand why they don’t just leave the ranked TS in (for people who want it) and add a social one.
