Ranked and Social Playlists

If there was one thing I’d like to see return in the next Halo series release it would be the Ranked and Social division in the Matchmaking playlist.

Make the Ranked playlist a stripped down, classic Halo playlist consisting of a limited anchored game types (Slater, Team Slayer, Swat and Objective game types) With a weekly rotational game type to change things up from time to time. Zero or limited load outs (limited to weapons selection) Classic weapon spawn system and … visible ranks.

The Social playlist would consist of a more diverse playlist containing the sport gametypes (which could be rotated into ranked based on their popularity) various objective game types could have their own playlist (not lumped into one) and full loadouts would be present in all gametypes along with the Halo 4 type ordinance drops.

I know that dividing the players may seem to be a bad idea, but I feel that allowing players divide up between the Ranked and Social playlists will allow for a better experience for everyone. It would allow the more dedicated players to jump into a more challenging playlist while the casual players would be able to get into a more versatile playlist which could help their game along.

Granted, aspects of this division would have to be looked at deeper to make each playlist better as time rolled on. But I feel that it would a good place to start in helping the multiplayer experience more enjoyable for everyone.

I have always been an advocate of ranked/social. I think it allows all players to play how they want. No real reason not to have this implemented in Halo 5.

have ranked be like halo 2/halo 3 with a visible 1-50 ranking system, it should have the halo 3 playlist exp progression system where one win = one exp, it should have a BR/AR Start game type and a DMR/AR start gametype respectively.

no ar starts, no matter how much some people think ar starts promotes weapon variety it doesnt.(coming from years of playing high level halo)

DO NOT MIX BR AND DMR IN THE SAME GAMETYPE IN THE RANKED PLAYLISTS THE GUNS DO NOT WORK WELL TOGETHER NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU THINK YOU’VE BALANCED THEM.

have the maps in ranked cater to 4v4 gameplay not 8v8(halo 4 being shipped with more btb maps than 4v4 maps)

have social be like reach/halo 4 with the AAs, you should be able to use customized loadouts in social, it should use a ranking system like halo reach(it should take forever to get to the max rank)

keep the serious and casual players separated but also ALLOW them to dabble in the other type of players world.

Do not make the game all casual or all competitive cater to both types of players.

i didnt read the OP i just wanted to give my thoughts but i agree with the title 100%

Yes. Having Ranked and Social playlists will help Halo 5. Making Halo 5 competitive will bring back fans. It will also bring new players into the Halo Franchise. Just look at how successful Halo 3 was.

Trust me. If 343 Industries develops Halo 5 as a competitive game, people(competitive, professional, casual gamers) will be attracted to Halo 5.

Lets take a quick look at how League of Legends is doing. At it’s core, League is a competitive game. There are millions of people playing League of Legends. Competitive players and casual players play it.

I can tell you this right now, if League of Legends was designed to cater only for the casual gamers,(e.g How 343i developed Halo 4) the game would not be as much of a success as it is now.

If 343i develops Halo 5 as a competitive game, Halo’s multiplayer will be a huge success.

Of course, social playlists should be available for anyone who wants to play for fun. Just bring back a competitive ranking system that works. A ranking system that really matters. And please, make it visible.

None of this CSR junk, and supposed “True skill.” we need something better.

A ranking system that shows how truly skilled a player is. In a custom match scenario, a high ranked player should be able to out BR a low ranked player and still have remaining health. There shouldn’t be a “who sees who first wins.” Experienced players should be able to outplay less experienced players. That is what Halo should be.

Halo 5 needs a skill gap.

Defo social and ranked, basically the same ranking as Halo 3!! That was perfect, got a little frustrating going up ranks but it was just so much better!

Good to see some interest in this.

Glad I’m not the only one who thinks this.

And yeah, no AR starts. BR or DMR with AR starts are perfect.

Wouldn’t that divide the game into two pieces? Ranked being close to classic and then social being a little restricted Infinity?

Apart from less serious gametypes like Action Sack and what not, Ranked and Social has played the same in the “main” playlists before. Team Slayer in Ranked had the same gameplay mechanics as Team Slayer in Social.

The thing I see this do is create a gap in gameplay between Ranked and Social.

I’m in. We’ve been needing this for a while. But as for visible rank… keep Halo 4’s ranking system for social, and only show your 1-50 in ranked playlists.

Yeah, that’s kind of the point really.

“Competitive” players tend to favor the stripped down Halo 3 layout to matchmaking. (At least from what I’ve read here) I’ve read thread after thread of people complaining about the introduction of Armor ability’s, load outs and the loss of a viable rank, and this playlist would reintroduce all these aspects back into the playlist.

Social would be a more relaxed playlist using the more evolved version of Halo Matchmaking. (AA’s, Load outs, Ordinance drops, random ordinance … etc.) In general it would be a more forgiving game layout for the the ranked play list.

As far as what games are included in each play list, I’m only throwing game types out that just came to mind. I’m not saying it has to be those game types only. I was just using those to build an example of the Ranked/Social playlists
