the population is more or less the same as it was before. Not much has changed.

A lot of us knew that not being able to see CSR in-game would be the reason that CSR would fail to bring back many players. I mean, if you can’t quickly compare yourself to others, then what’s the point of a Competitive Skill Rank?
Because CSR isn’t what we asked for. We asked for an in game ranking system like H3 or H2 “the good old days” and this should’ve been in the game on release day. No one will go out their way to repurchase a game just to test CSR out, they lost a lot people with how long this too to implement also.

Problem though, using a flawed system, it is flawed like it not, and very easily manipuated, only brings more issues than solves problems. Basing a person’s rank soley how much they win versus lose is a ver poor way to do things.
I don’t think 343i has really advertised CSR either, most of my friends don’t even know it exists and if they do know about it hate that they have to come to Waypoint to see it.
You’re all wrong. I wasn’t talking about the sense of the way csr is implemented, I was talking about rank itself. You don’t need rank to enjoy halo, for proof look at halo ce for both xbox and pc.A
I believe this belongs in the daily population thread. I agree that we need in-game ranks. Reach failed with BPR and you would think 343i would learn from that and improve on it.
Edit: However, competitive gaming has become more or less essential with new leagues popping up here and there. Back in 2001, no one really cared because there was hardly any real competition back then. The times have changed.

Maybe some people liked having a rank and drew enjoyment from it. Who are you to say what people can and cannot enjoy?
> Basing a person’s rank soley how much they win versus lose is a ver poor way to do things.
It also worked by comparing who you beat and who you played with. The sigmas between you and the opponents would be compared and the approximation of your trueskill would be adjusted based on the difference.
Besides, if a system is exploitable, does it mean that it has to be removed? Or does it mean that the developers need to get less crappy tools?

“You don’t need commendations, achievements, challenges, firefight, armour types, theater, spartan OPs, forge world and the host of other gametypes and features that were added post Halo CE to enjoy Halo, for proof just look at Halo CE”
See how silly the argument you just made is?

Oh, I for one really don’t need rank to enjoy Halo. I’ve played countless hours of Halo PC/Custom Edition online back in my days, and they were some of the best online gaming experiences I’ve ever had. And in Halo 4, I got to SR130 months ago, yet I still keep playing the game for fun every now and then. I personally don’t care whether or not there’s a true ranking system in future Halo games, but for the sake of others that do want one, I’m still gonna vouch for it. Many players associate competitive ranking as fun, who are we to tell them how to enjoy their games?

I understand this but nothings perfect and nothing ever will be. The old ranking systems were fun and a lot of people enjoyed them. As for the cheaters in comparison they were a small minority of the overall population so screw it let them cheat, don’t screw everyone over because of the acts of a few. This game should’ve had an in game “XP rank” and a in game “skill rank” where each individual player could toggle on and off which ever they wanted to show off.
Any meaningful change that can be done now will be too late to bring any “population” back to Halo 4. People have left, the damage has been done, and I doubt they’re going to be looking back anytime soon.
But we can hope.

If they can advertise their new Legendary Slayer enough and that it shows a classic Halo experience, then yes, I believe the population can come back. The summer months are also coming soon for high school students so that should also help 343i’s cause a little bit. The college students are also done this week so hopefully we can see a slight rise.
We need a seasonal league system like SC 2 or LoL for Halo 5.
coughReach!cough
Seriously. If players do not enjoy the gameplay, slapping numbers on it will not make players go back.
GAMEPLAY is the more important factor. Mess that up and numbers won’t help you.

This. I had a friend who just put in his Halo 4 again and he had no clue what it was.
That and I doubt anyone would want go to their phone or computer everytime they finish a game to see if they ranked up or not. They expect that to be in the game.
indeed True skill ranks are unimportant to a good amount of todays console players, gameplay is far more important then a silly skill number.
Just look at all the games these days that comes with social and ranked playlists, social playlists will always have a higher population.

Or we have de example of Halo 4 who have a -Yoink- population. Look if you don´t care about in-game “numbers” fine for me but there more people out there who wants.

Oh don’t be so dramatic. Damage has been done? You mean over 8 million copies sold? Yeah… that seems like a lot of damage.
Unless Halo 5 sells next to no copies, no damage has been done and no one cares about what we on Waypoint thinks.
