Rank the Warzone Assault maps!

So i’d like to know how you would rank the warzone assault maps from favourite to most hated map, also i’d like to have a few reasons why you think this particular map is so bad. In the last few weeks i have played a lot warzone assault, atleast a lot more than i played any other gamemode, and after playing all the maps up and down in the matchmaking i gradually ranked the maps from favourite to least favourite. So here’s my list:

  1. ( as in favourite map) : Dispatch (= Escape from ARC variant) , what i like about it : It doesn’t feel as bad as it’s big brother in the normal warzone mode and it has enough access points for the attackers to actually get into the objectives. What i don’t like about it are the roof campers i hate them equally as attacker and defender. Sidenote it is too easy to get sniped as defender when the attackers camp on top of the garage.

  2. Array ( Raid on Apex 7 variant ) : Although the battle for the spire can be a drag as attacker it stil has enough ways to get on top of it to ambush the defending team on top of the spire. What i really don’t like about this map is the armory ( aka second base ) because it’s just a bottleneck and can be a pain to capture. Also this map has quite some spawn issues as soon as the game gets to the second base, spawns for the 1. phase are fine.

  3. :Summit ( March on Stormbreak ) : This map can be really frustrating, especially as attacker when you can’t even take 1 step into one of the 4!! entrances in the 1st phase. For the attacking side it gets a lot better as soon as you capture the fortress, for the defenders on the other hand as soon as you loose the fortress it gets really bad. Also this map is way too linear and you don’t even use half of the map in warzone assault ( the lowered lading pads, the tunnel behind the fortress ) here we lost a lot of potential.

And the last place goes to … Urban!
What bugs me so much with this map are the spawns which are beyond horrible and the resulting spawnkilling . This is the only map where i get the feeling that i cannot spawn at a location that is in any way beneficial to me. You spawn either right in front of the garage ( which is the better spawn in my opinion ) or you spawn next to the second base behind the garage, i mean why do i spawn so far away from the 1. base but so close to the second? Some of the spawns for the 2. phase are even the same as the ones from the 1. phase. Additionally the map itself isn’t really good gameplay wise. You have these HUGE open spaces that you have to cross to get anywhere, except you spawn right in front of your objective ( atleast in phase 1 and 2 ) and the advantage of the high ground is mostly given to the defenders. Not to mention that the 2. base itself is positioned so bad that i still can’t believe this is a later released warzone assault map.

So this is my list and now i’m gonna post a list of things that can/could/should be fixed/changed:

  • The spawns, almost every map has spawn issues some more than others but 343 you really need to take another look at them
  • Use the space a map offers more effectively, for example you could atleast make the tunnels/caves on summit more useful by moving the 2nd base a bit uphill or you could make use of the second base on urban by making the base itself high ground and change it into a hill battle, with options to get up there for the attackers of course, like tower in the middle of cilff like rocks with some mancannons to give the attackers the boost they need.
  • Make use of the gamemode itself, warzone assault is a gamemode where battle always centers around 1 spot on the map and right now it’s like that doesn’t matter in the least, by using the map and the opportunities this gamemode provides 343 could make this a lot more interesting, for example manable turrets on an open style base
  • More variety in the objectives, why is it only 1 core to destroy and why do i have to capture an armory on every single map? you could easily design a map where you for example have to capture a base, then destroy the base core and last but not least stop the enemy from escaping by capturing an area or destroying some bridge.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you like all warzone assault maps, do you hate all of them?

I personally have fun with all of them but i don’t really like any of them at the same time. Looking at how other games handle this game type i have to say that most recent games ( and old ones UT 2004 for example ) do a way better job at handling the Rush/Assault/Storm/Warzone Assault gamemode and the maps are often better too ( like the convoy map from UT2004 or some of the Rush variants in Battlefield e.g : Grand Bazaar, Noshar Canals, Dawnbreaker, … you get where i’m coming from, although you always need to destroy two crappy COM stations the gameplay is much more interesting and diverse than in Halo 5 )

My favourite one is summit because of the nice map design

Either Dispatch or Summit is the best in my opinion, Array is good but only on Red team, and Urban can just leave.

ARC is the most fair assault from spawns, for both attacking and defending.

Noctus assault is similar, but spawns can get pretty bad and far away at times

Stormbreak assault can give a huge advantage to defenders, as they direct excess to vehicle spawn

Apex assault is just downright distasteful for attacking team. Pushing against high ground in the beginning feels like a lost cause.
