Many people agree that the Rank placements seem to be random. Some people are doing really well and only being placed in Gold or Platinum, whereas some others who have a lower W/L ratio are being placed directly into Diamond and Onyx. It also seems that there fewer people in the lower ranks such as bronze and silver. It just doesn’t really seem to be balanced nor accurate.
I am sure over time it will balance out. It may need a little bit of tweaking such as people being completely unable to place into Onyx. I would honestly like to see that because it doesn’t make sense…everyone should have to climb into onyx to get to champion. Besides that I think giving it more time will make sure people will be where they are supposed to be.
Agreed, I think they should make it where the highest you can be placed after the 10 matches to be either Gold or Plat, that way people will actually have to work up to Onyx and Champion. Because what’s the point/fun in becoming Onyx/Champion if you cant even go down in tiers. Another issue I was thinking of is that the Champion Tier is supposed to be the top 200 players, but how can other enter into the tier if you cannot bump others out of it. Doesn’t seem like much of a Rank system if you can not go down in rank.
I won 7/10 on my placement and was given silver 1
I don’t think it’s random. My belief is that you start at a specific CSR prior to playing your first match and go up or down depending on the ranks of your opposition. For example, if KnightHack3R lost his/her first match which happened to be against Gold players (or unranked players within the gold range), the game will attempt to pit you against players in Silver or Gold, because you seem to win and lose games at an average rate there.
When I was gunning for placement in Free For All, my first match was against a single gold tier player and a number of unranked ones. From there, I went up against Platinum and Diamond players for my second game (after I won) and from there only matched Onyx opposition. Because I had performed well against Gold in my placement, the game decides, “let’s try a match against platinum/diamond”. Because I won my game there as well, I got bumped to Onyx, where I was met with fierce competition.
I won my first 6 in a row and then the only 3 i lost were due to 3 v 4 as players on my team left/disconnected
I find it hard to be ranked based off my performance against other players that haven’t been fully assessed themselves. I got gold in TDM, Breakout, and the first playlist (random), even though I feel like I did loads better in the random team based games than my terrible performance in the Breakout games, yet all three got gold, IDK. Its gonna be more like 50 games of each gamemode against other players that are playing almost 50 games to get a good assessment of your skill.

You can indeed go down in rank, in all ranks

Wait 'til I finish two more games and you’ll see one. My K/D is like -2, lol.
Edit; Yeah, I’m going to have to go ahead and agree the ranking system might be a little off…

I’m talking about Tiers. You cannot go from Gold down to Silver.

Idk man, during my placement matches I was only going against plat-onyx players and I won 7/10 games but placed in Gold. And then with ease I made it up to Plat 3.
