So my buddy and I played 12 ranked games today, We won 11 of them and tied once, 6 of those 11 the other team had players quit out. I started the day off with 1441 CSR and after those 12 games i was only at 1461, so 20 points in 12 games. My friend only went up 18 points in those 12 games. He went from 1281 to 1299, After those 12 games we played another, and we lost that one i went from 1461 to 1451. We also had a guy quit out that game. We played another and lost again, and i went from 1451 to 1439. so in 2 games that we lost i am now lower than what i started with even after winning 11 games before that. Lost a 3rd in a row and went to 1425 with another guy quiting and then a 4th loss and now down to 1410. I dont have a problem with the game being hard to rank up but if we are going 11 wins 4 losses and 1 tie in a day i should be lower than what i started out. I shouldnt have to win 135 games in a row for my friend just to go from D2 to Onyx.
The quits are frustrating. They just waste everyone’s time.
As for your ranking change - the key is to not treat is a number to grind. If you start to focus on the game to game, or even day to day change, you will only be disappointed.
It doesn’t really work like that.
For all your wins and losses… it will come down to how many sides did you beat who were ranked above you.
And again… it’s incredibly frustrating if you are denied some of those key results because someone on either team quits out. I feel for you. There is no dimension in Hell painful enough for such people.
If you friend is Onyx level it shouldn’t take that many games. They just have to establish a 50:50 win rate vs Onyx level teams and show a healthy kpm vs that level of opponent (around the 1.5 to 1.7 level).
If your friend isn’t Onyx level you will find that you will start to lose those tougher games and their CSR will keep being jolted back (by 10 to 15 points a game) to their actual MMR.
The visual ranking system is super frustrating and taking it for what it is at face value will do you no good. I’ve experienced similar frustrations in the solo/duo grinding trying to go for onyx only to lose two or three games in a row and lose my entire diamond status. I sympathize with you fellow Spartan.
Im Diamond 5 and 6 right now floating between the 2 and my friend is Diamond 2 and we typically face Dimaond 5 and 6s or will face Diamonds and Onyxs or occasionally get the Onyx with a plat or gold. But no matter how good we do winning. 65% of are games with each other every time we play. He cant get out of Diamond 2. It makes it almost pointless to play, especially if we are going to keep winning most of the games and there is no reward in it. We are not being rewarded for winning, especially if we make the other team quit. We are just gettting punished for winning and losing. makes no sense
Also in the solo/duo mode. I some how got ranked Plat 5, but every game im put into mostly Onyx lobbies. Im not mad that i face onyx players. I was a 50 in halo 3, and got to high onyx in halo 5. The problem i have is, if they want me to play onyx players then dont give me a damn plat rank or if you want to give me a plat rank then put me against high plats and low diamonds
The frustration comes down to the scale of the CSR.
I have no idea why they are using the same scale as the MMR (1 to 1800+). It’s just frustrating and promotes a toxic grind for a handful of points.
It would work so much better at a smaller scale. eg. 1 to 100, or even go right back to 1 to 50.
The most you can lose is 15 points per game. And that would have to be a bad loss and a CSR that has drifted above your MMR.
wrong. 343 waste everyone’s time because they still punish a quit in a 3v4. Just got a ban after leaving two consecutive matches… 1 after it was a 2v4 and another which started as 3v4.
Ive no problem if someone leaves, game is thrown, losing little CSR and move on. But having to stay in the game, maybe with some pricks playing only for kills and not the objective just to be allowed to keep playing is just another big evidence how bad the designers are…
Yep. Out of all the options available to deal with a 3v4 scenario… they went down the least enjoyable path.
Just had a 3v3 where my 2 teammates went full kamikaze mode and lost even more than I would’ve if I had stayed. You can’t choose the matches you play and the population isn’t high enough to keep you at this mythical 50:50 win rate (I’m 60% for reference) and due to things like onyx players just being boosters at this point, quitters and the unstable condition of the game you’re more having to just “grind your skill level” whatever that means.
It’s a hateful system
They do need to realize sooner than later, to give people a goal to achieve in ranked. If it isn’t the actual rank (because we’ve heard over and over) our rank is what it is, and grinding won’t change that. So something similar to MW2 155 maybe?
Step 1 is an XP rank. Weighted to wins, scores, medals, etc.
Step 2 is some sort of recognition for a win at a high level. eg. If you have any game that has 4v4 players in the same divsion and everyone has ping less than, say, 50ms… then the game is for “championship points”.
You can announce it at the beginning of the match!
Each winner gets a point. And the you have a championship table each season for the most points in each Division (eg. Onyx table, Diamond table, etc).
A much better “grind” then abusing squads for CSR points.
I don’t think the UI can support it man…
Also it could take years for 343 to implement something like this
I’ve said it months ago and I’ll say it again… systemic rankism is prevalent in halo infinite and being “onyx” doesn’t make a teammate better, in fact I have found it to be the opposite. The higher the rank, the more entitled and less teamwork I have noticed. I’m not judging but one needs a certain selfishness to achieve and stay at the top. I couldn’t do it, I enjoy dying for my team much more. I don’t think winning at a higher level should be weighted any more than winning at a not higher level, every win should equal the same respect. I don’t think beating a so called higher ranked team is better than beating a different team. Every win is equal in my eyes.
Certainly rank doesn’t necessarily equate to team work.
I’ve played with plenty of Onyx players. Some are more than happy to leave you to hang out and dry (often with a tirade of verbal abuse). Other’s are good at taking you under their wing and helping you to contribute.
Needless to say one of these feels more conducive to the win.
Damage Sponge for life!
I am having the same situation. I play with the same team 3-4 nights a week, played 8 games won 6 lost 2 (1 we started with 3) and my fire team of 4 all finished lower than when we started. One of the guys who finished 1st in 4 of the games only got 10 points of rank in total. We are playing at D4-D6 and none of gone any rank in out last two wins. in one of the games we lost we lost 13 csr. we have basically hit a ceiling and there is no point in playing anymore no matter how many games you win. Its even worse when the game crashes and you lose the full 15 csr. i’ve played halo since the launch of the xbox and this is hands down the most frustrating aspect i have come across in the game.
MMR gives me crappy opponents AND good servers, so no wonder I only got 7 csr out of 5 wins, absolutely dominating though.

But whats the point in playing when a loss comes eventually (no matter why) and Im ending up -12 or -15?
Screw the csr, why can’t I see my MMR? -.-
would be nice that the ones who rank up are the first 4 mvp and the ones from the winning team
