Just played a solo/duo game with a brand new account. Unranked, 1st game matched against onyx. 2nd game matched against onyx. So is everyone onyx?
SBMM transfers over from your open Que and all other game modes. But you already knew that cause your an Onyx player
this is a new account. Do you know how to read? So youre telling me from my original account, that is onyx. that the system transfers my SBMM to a brand new account that isnt ranked? Hmm. Totally makes sense.
you seem very upset. I mean i would be too if i was carried to onyx
It’s so easy to rank up in this game. You can lose 5 in a row and lose a sliver of rank, then win the next game and it goes up drastically
What if you’ve got kids or younger siblings, roommates, or your partner perhaps? So the main player who is already max ranked will get screwed over if the new players don’t perform well then? Will OP be forced into lower rank matches on their first account? Will the aforementioned family, roommates, or SO be forced into matches against Onyx? These are important questions to raise.
im doing some testing, ive been playing games then quitting at the end and still got ranked diamond 1. Been betraying and quitting every game but yet i wont go down in rank. If i stay and we win, i go up tons.
Im going super positive and being put against onyx despite quitting and losing on purpose.
im at 3 wins 20 losses 10 quits. Im diamond, wont go down
yeah you can definitely tell there are REALLY bad players in diamond right now it’s quite sad. games are so inconsistent it’s almost like they are bots, no lie lol.
I tested this by throwing placement games on a new acc and on an old acc (yes I’m a jerk for it but I needed to know) and brand new accs will play people new until a few games in when the game decides who to match them vs, then it’ll try and match their MMR. Older accounts will just pair you up with people depending on your current MMR. Doesn’t matter the playlist.
Also your performance BARELY matters for placement matches. You are basically only able to place within 1-2 tiers of your social MMR if you’re on an account that’s been playing a bit. I lost all my games and went 0-20 and got gold 6 on my current account on KBM queue. meanwhile when I went 2.0 k/d and won 8 out of 10 matches in my actual placement games on controller queue, I placed plat 4.
When I threw games on a brand new acc I placed bronze 1.
dude, i really think it is bots. Ive had players with some crazy stuff on sprinting into walls. I think the problem we think is cheaters is actually the game putting in high level bots that can see you whenever they want
ive been throwing games on a brand new and im diamond. Look up LilB01 P33Pz on halo tracker. There should be no reason why im ranked that high on an account with 7 wins, 16 losses and 7 quits.
put an H in this

Your first game you went 17-0.
What a stupid topic.
The ranked system is bad though and does need tweaking, but it’s extremely clear looking at your game history why it rated you where it did. It also factors other things in so likely your movement and accuracy also played a part, even when you were “throwing”.
You can stop making new accounts now and spoiling the game for other people.
There’s literally a whole paper published on how Trueskill2 works. Go read it if you want to understand it instead of ruining other people’s games. This game clearly uses a version of it.
Your first games establish immediately where your hidden MMR should be. Then the system calibrates it over the next 40 games. It takes about 40 games to be comfortable it has assessed players accurately. Understandably the less data the more wildly a player can swing either way. This is why new accounts can be placed so wildly out of expectations.
This is also why if someone plays like a gold player in social, their games in ranked will be against gold players immediately. This is also why if you play social at an Onyx level, you will play your first games against Onyx level players immediately. This is because games are balanced on hidden MMRs not visible rank. This is why teams can seem unbalanced at face value when looking purely at ranks. One team may have a diamond 1 and the enemy may have Onyx but the Diamond 1 has Onyx hidden MMR from social. The system doesn’t always get it right but historically it could predict the outcome of 2/3 games, so clearly the system is pretty damn good at what it does.
You can lose all 10 games and still place Diamond 1. You don’t even need a good score or k/d. As long as your hidden MMR is high, the placement games are largely irrelevant. They also use other metrics that we are not privy too but many believe it is accuracy, movement, potentially damage, power weapons controlled etc etc. They don’t release the info in any game but it can be tweaked for different games as they see fit.
The reason this system isn’t working well is because the game is so aggressive in pushing your hidden MMR, it doesn’t let you rank down for losses if your MMR is far above the rank. That’s why some players can lose 5+ games and go negative and not lose any rank and others have really strong individual games and only gain a sliver of CSR. This is because their visual rank almost perfectly reflects their hidden MMR. The only way they can increase their rank is by playing more games consistently at a higher level until the system determines they are worthy of a higher hidden MMR.
This is why in Halo 5 you could get to Onyx even with like 40% win ratio. The system has always done it but for some reason the losses are even less punishing now. They’ll surely amend the metric requirements to push the average from high Plat/Diamond where it is now to Gold/Plat instead. They want to create a bell curve so ranks are evenly distributed at the middle ranks. The system clearly needs some work, as it’s not quite working as intended as everyone’s hidden MMR is a lot higher than it should be.
You can be as rude as you like, but the information is there for you to read up on so I didn’t have to type this out. I’m just hoping this will stop you running tests. I don’t want newer players put off ranked because of people like you spoiling their enjoyment of it.
you can claim all you want, but if im losing games, and my rank isnt going down that is a problem.
its less punishing because “we want everyone to feel like a bad -Yoink!-” -343 the game is inherently flawed at the fundamental level
reguardless, ill keep throwing games and ill keep climbing the betrayal leaderboards
Lmao what a joke. Everyone is a pro i guess
That’s because your hidden MMR hasn’t lowered enough yet. As I said, everyone is running too high in the MMR department.
I can only assume they’ll fix it with a future update. With systems like this the flaws aren’t apparent until you start pushing through the full community. They’ll see how high everyone’s ranks are and amend it accordingly. This happens to a lot of games in the first ranked season.
Diamond 1 is like top 45% right now of everyone so that is only slightly above average. It is super easy to rank in Diamond right now. You only need to be slightly better than the average player. So even playing poorly by an Onyx players standards you should easily place in Diamond.
thats what they want man. They literally want “everyone to feel like a bad -Yoink!-”
im trying something different now. Instead of killing im just dying over and over and over. Still, nothings changed. Diamond 1 fighting onyx level players
we also need to take into account only 25% of players have been placed in the rank system. That is very telling on what kind of people play halo now
Part of the problem is due to your MMR being far above Diamond 1 I imagine. It will be dropping every game, but will take time for it to go below Diamond 1. Then you’ll drop rank.
This would be less of an issue if you could place above Diamond 1 in placements. I liked Halo 5 after the update. Originally you could place Onyx in 10 placement games which felt a little unsatisfying. They changed it to Diamond 3 so you at least got to grind a little every season even though the game fast tracks you back to Onyx so it’s pretty much just a placebo for my little rat brain.
Because I’m consistently playing at a decently high Onyx level, I pretty much can’t derank but my higher ranked teammates have lost huge portions of their rank. I lost 5 in a row, didn’t derank then won 1 and went to the top of Diamond 5. Wasn’t even a big game stats wise. The game just knows I should be in Onyx and doesn’t care how many games I have to lose to get there lol. I don’t agree with it either.
