This was one of my biggest pet peeves about halo 5. I’m tired of having to scroll through 3-4 screens just to see what my teammates or opponents rank in a certain playlist is. I understand we are in the generation of sparing everyone’s feelings, but I’m hoping infinite is more like Halo 2 and Halo 3 where when you select a playlist, everyone’s rank will show up in the pregame lobby.
Showing people the opposing team’s ranks probably makes people on average more likely to quit during the match. So I imagine if you want to minimize quitting, it’s ideal to not show the opposing team’s ranks until the game ends. It has nothing to do with “sparing everyone’s feelings”, and all to do with optimizing the matchmaking experience for everyone (since everybody appreciates having less quitters in their team).

With proper quitting penalties I don’t see how this would be an issue. If someone is quitting because they are matched against a champ or onyx rank, they deserve to be penalized imo.
H5 did this wrong and should have shown ranks in the pre game lobby. Dont make the same mistake 343. Allow ranks to be shown in the pre game lobby.

Reach also had the same thing

Halo 5 is pretty harsh with the quit penalties yet people still quit. Do you consider Halo 5’s quit penalties too lax? Would you want harsher ones in Infinite as a quit deterrent?
I may be mistaken but Halo Wars 2 originally showed people ranks in the pre-game lobby, and this led to alot of quitting. So an update was pushed out that hid ranks in pregame lobbies to prevent dodging.

I do consider H5’s quit penalties too lenient. I think that if you quit you shouldn’t be able to start a new game until the one you dodged/quit out of is over. If thats too hard to program into the game, then I would say 15 minutes of not playing for the 1st time you quit would be good. And this adds up each time you do, and resets after X amount of games of good behavior/non-quitting.
As for the dodging aspect, I play BTB religiously (as one can tell with my GT) and dodging and quitting is still a huge deal even in a social playlist. If someone sees my teams emblems, they are prone to dodge. No other reason than they don’t want a competitive game I guess. (we have never farmed/stated). Like I said in my OP, it just seems like 343 doesn’t want to hurt peoples feelings by showing others ranks. The way I see it is that someone will always be better than you, thats just a fact.

As tsassi said, I don’t think feelings come into it. Obviously people will always think of new ways to dodge when one is taken away. That doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to just forego quit prevention altogether.
My question is why you are so concerned with knowing your teammates/opponents ranks beforehand. Is that going to change whether or not you play the game? Does it change how you’ll play? Are you going to treat your teammates differently because of it? What does showing the ranks in the pre-game lobby do for you that you want it back so much? What value is lost by their removal? And not even removal; you can still find the info, you just have to select a player and go to it.

No, you’re missing the point. It doesn’t matter what other measures to reduce quitting you have: doing this will help reduce quitting even further. Let’s put it this way, which do you care more about: seeing your opponents’ ranks in the pre-game lobby, or minimizing the amount of times one of your teammates quits?
On a side note, I’m not a believer in the effectiveness of quit penalties, no matter how harsh (or rather, especially harsh). In fact, I think the aggressive “they deserve to be penalized” attitude is ineffective for coming up with good solutions for reducing quitting because it’s focused on getting revenge rather than on addressing the issue.
I’m kinda divided on the matter. Part of me thinks it’s good because it prevents quitters, but the other part of me knows how frustrating it is playing champs as a diamond so it’d be nice to see who I’m facing to avoid that situation lol

To be completely honest, I care more about seeing ranks/gamertags in the pregame lobby.
If someone is going to quit because they see a certain gamertag or rank, they’re probably going to quit because they can’t get sniper, or because they got killed by rockets, ect. Just seems dumb to cater to the quitters and not the people who play the game.

Its something you’ve earned. Its also a good indicator of a good match, when you used to see 4 50’s in H3, you knew you were in for a great match. On the other side of the coin, if you see a bunch of low level players, you know you more than likely can have a chill game.

No, you’re still missing the point. Nobody’s catering to quitters here. This is catering to everyone who cares about not having teammates quit on them.

But you won’t quit no matter what the ranks are, right? You’ll still play, even if the enemies are vastly inferior/superior. So, the only benefit I see from seeing ranks beforehand is knowing before you go into a match that you won’t need to take it too seriously, as opposed to realizing that after you’ve played the match a bit. Which I suppose has some use, though I feel like that’s what the separation of ranked and social is for.
The other bit about it being something you earned: even if it’s not displayed in the pregame lobby, you still know what your rank is. Is that not good enough?
I enjoyed seeing who I was playing before hand like in H3. If someone is going to quit out, id rather them leave before the game starts so someone can take their place.

Sure maybe but at the minimum the game should at least show us the SR, maybe a preview of their armour…I found looking at the lobby system to be a bit boring when going into matchmaking in H5 and I loved Halo 3 lobby system more because it meant I could have a nosy at the their basic profile info before the game starts but now all I see in Halo 5 is basic emblem and not even any way to mute people. Halo Infinite needs a major overhaul to make this part of the experience more interesting. As for people quitting…you’ll always have them, I’m sure they’ll get a penalty for leaving.
I don’t mind if the rank or GT is hidden in a ranked playlist, but I’d much rather have something like Reach for social playlists.

I disagree we should have names and ranks.

Lol no! Some people like too see ranks to see how much time some people have in the game not to determine rather to quit or not.

Whatever happens to reporting quitters? Bring back ranks and cameras please 343i. Make halo like the good days please…
