I like the challenge of primarily playing alone and grinding to onyx and when I got onyx in Slayer today I was bummed to see that you can still be bumped down to Diamond with enough losses. I think it’s more than fair to lock in your rank at onyx as you’ve clearly earned it if you were able to wade through the chaotic mess that is solo queue, not to mention how you’re virtually forced to play with premade teams in order to continue having succes at that point(since your opponents are almost always a premade onyx and up). Just a thought for those lone wolf players such as myself!
Part of the challenge is to be good enough to keep Onyx. It prevents people who shouldn’t be in Onyx staying in Onyx all season
Party matchmaking is just a whole different ball of string

Agreed. The skill is in maintaining the rank, not getting there and having a safety lock in place after.
Did that change? I didn’t think you could get knocked down a division midseason? When did they implement this?

That’s exactly my point, the way matchmaking is designed now is very anti solo players onyx and up because you will almost always lose to a premade team with coms and call outs, no matter how great your personal skill is. I’m just not that into partying up with a squad in order to rank up higher, just isn’t my style.

Three or four months ago. Theoretically you can derank all the way to bronze 1 if you lose enough matches.
You could always derank in skilled based matchmaking before why shouldn’t you now. Sorry but losing is losing and you should go down a tier if you can’t keep winning.
It’s honestly not that hard to hold on to low onyx, even solo queueing. As with any rank I believe you should both work to achieve it and hold it. Also if you don’t want to team with people then maybe a team based playlist isn’t for you? Try FFA instead?

That can change without having to put up a safety lock for reaching Onyx. Otherwise we’d go back to the system we had before where every level was a safety lock.
If you made onyx solo I salute you. I can’t hold on to platinum solo with 343’s ingenious match making ways.
No I’ll rather have the system drop you a
rabl if you lose too many matches. It enforces the player to play better in order to keep the rank him/her achieved.
Yeah sorry buddy, but you will be in the minority on this one. Even though this is making it more difficult for me to rank up it will make it all the more rewarding when I do. The other way just seemed artificial.
Eh I like the deranked so if people get carried they can be dropped like they should be.
Not having it lock so to speak also ensures players always play at their best. If their rank was safe from going down they could at times just sandbag and not play at their best. That wouldn’t be fair to other players trying to move up.

Whole different ball of string? Never heard that, but will be using it.

I second this. Part of a team based playlist is working and communicating with a team and this should be shown in ranks. Locked ranks makes the rank less valuable, let’s keep it the way it is currently.

100% agree with these guys. This is how it should of been off the bat! (Like so many other things in this game unfortunately…)

Alright, 1st of all - playing arena solo is not a good idea, h5 is based on team work, solo-ing won’t work
2nd of all - I like the fact that you can drop from onyx - because some people shouldn’t be in onyx
