You can do this with any good player tho and carry the bad kid to higher ranks.
I don’t see how this is an issue tho because once the player stops playing with them they tank and since loosing is heavily weighted in this game, hell tank fast.
The only way is if they kept playing together which at some point both players will even out and the boosting won’t make much if a difference.
Not everyone gets to that point though, sure some stop playing and it ultimately doesn’t matter, but I’ve seen boost duo’s that keep at it.
Whether they win or lose, it’s miserable for one team or the other. Plus it causes a rift after so much time passes. Kind of like a domino effect since it all doesn’t just even back out. Players who run into enough boosters end up down lower than where they belong because of rank lost from losing. So when that player manages to climb back up, they did so at the cost of stepping on others to get back where they belong. And it’s no fault of theirs, they got stuck there, but now it’s gone from a small ripple in a puddle to a crashing ocean wave.
The problem a lot of people don’t consider when thinking about smurfs and boosted players is how the process has unbalanced because of them mucking up the ladder. It’s not just like messing up your hair where you can comb it back into place, the consequences of boosters and smurfs is that the ladder gets all messed up. Overwatch never recovered from the smurf pool it had before and now it’s almost all smurfs and new players.
Regular players will most likely come out of the placement with the same MMR.
For them the Season’s are a blip. An encouragement to keep playing.
But some players may be a bit rank locked. They may be ripe for a rank up and just need the increased variance on their rank… or they may have been away for a while and need the ability to rank down a bit to ease them back into the game.
Halo 5 at the start had the same issue with people getting up into diamond 4/6 and onyx that may or may not be able to hang in that placement long term. After the first season they tinkered with the CSR it felt like and you saw more folks in plat/d1-2 where they hit a wall for progression
Performing better in social is actually more effective at increasing your csr because it is my understanding that your visible csr attempts to match your invisible mmr.
Having a lower mmr will punish losses more severely.
I played a lot of social matches before jumping into rank. I messed around a lot especially doing challenges. Last week’s ultimate literally wanted us to die. When I played crossplay ranked I placed Platinum 1. I climbed to Diamond 5 really easily but got stuck there despite maintaining a 60% win ratio and positive KD. I regularly match the performances of Onyx players. However loses are punished harshly because my mmr isn’t high enough.
Playing against bots appears to increase mmr. After doing so I can now gain csr despite having a 50% win ratio and despite versing harder opponents. Better to not get punished for loses than playing easier opponents.
My opinion? Come up with a ranking system not dependent on a hidden social ranking. Maybe not possible with 10 placement matches. Maybe let’s do 50 placement matches before giving us a rank.
Hopefully on reset there will be a ranked FFA playlist so I can try it out. I’ll feel bad doing it in a team game so maybe I should wait until n FFA playlist emerges.
It’s an issue in that it’s not really fair for the team that has to have this player as a teammate, after they’ve been carried to a higher rank. I feel like I’m often getting matched with terrible teammates whose CSR rank doesn’t reflect their skill level. One person not carrying their weight in a 4v4 match makes a huge difference and can cost the match.
I agree on the first part. Hidden social ranking shouldn’t factor into ranked. On the placement matches, I wish these didn’t exist. I’d actually prefer a more classic Halo ranked system that puts everyone at the very bottom and let’s them climb out of it, providing a more satisfying journey of climbing a ladder.
Well you can’t solo kill the entire team anymore like in halo 5 so yeah having a bad teammate sucks. But anyone can be bad at any time. Anyone could have a good or bad game at any time. So to say your upset over a teammate doesn’t really make sense. Are you saying people shouldn’t be allowed to play with their friends because of ranked differences? Because that’s still considered boosting. No matter what your ganna have a bad teammate at some point. I don’t see how having a bad teammate is an issue.
I’m hopeful this reset is so a MMR/CSR split can be implemented. I play with Diamond and Plat and an Onyx player but I ranked so low to begin with from several unlucky placement matches (2v4, 3v4, objective games, etc) and did so many bot matches Ranked became impossible for me. I still haven’t gotten out of gold. I look at my stats on Halo Tracker vs. my friends and I’m started to get near their level but progress is slow and i always play with my higher ranked friends so my MMR is inflated.
It can still be Bronze to Onyx (it doesn’t matter) but just the principle of having ranks without showing the CSR number.
People were quite happy to reach ‘50’ and bask in their achievment. There was no toxic play or squad manipulation trying to move up from 50.05 to 50.06.
So having a simple ‘50’ or ‘Onyx-6’ as the highest level to grind would be welcome.
As for Halo 3… a lot of people remember it fondly - but we could do without the hidden ranks and rank locking.
