When I had an offline account I was Commander Grade 2 and had spent hours and thousands of credits to get there and I got on Reach the next day and I found out I was now a recruit. Has this happened to anyone else? Why does this happen or why did it happen. Also when I got an online account I was back to Warrant Officer Grade 1 and then got set back to Sergeant Grade 2 and can’t get xp very fast due to free membership. Is there a faster way to get xp offline?

Below is what Bungie has said about Halo Reach and taking offline profiles online for the first time. They added this countermeasure in so that you couldn’t boost your account offline and then immediately show up online as an Inheritor, or the like. I think that should answer your question. If you still seek more information, Bungie added a helpful Q/A on this link that might help you out.
> Going Online for the First Time If you initially earn offline Credits and then take your profile online, there will be a onetime check to see how many Credits you’ve acquired. If that amount is over 26,250, you will need to forfeit some Credits. This check is in place to ensure a level playing field and to eliminate foul play.
>
> If you choose not to authenticate, you can still play online, but you will subsequently appear as a default Spartan with a default emblem and colors. If you want to change your mind, simply reboot your console and upon your next foray into online matchmaking, you’ll be prompted again.
>
> If you have purchased shiny new Armory items, the authentication process may reclaim armor pieces in order to bring the Credits balance into a positive state. The end result is Armor + Credits = 26,250. No more, no less.
>
> If you have less than 26,250 lifetime Credits earned when you go online for the first time, you won’t have to worry about any of this complicated math.
>
> Note: Authenticating Credits does not provide any personal information to Bungie. It’s only used to track Credits per gamertag. Once you authenticate your Credits with our online servers, you will not see the Credit loss dialog ever again (unless you decide to create a new profile). If you go back to playing offline, the game will simply cap you at 1,000 Credits per day until you reconnect to LIVE. If you are playing while connected to LIVE, there is no cap and you can earn Credits to your heart’s content.
Thank you but I was asking why I had been reset when I wasn’t online… (Commander Grade 2).
When you play online for the first time you get de-ranked pretty heavily and honestly it’s really stupid
Bad times
At least it’s a boss game! Get ranking up Spartan!
My question was does anyone know why I have been reset when I was offline? Also has this happened to anyone else?
The other posts answered that my friend. You must have signed online (which resets your rank). Even if you go back offline, your rank is still reset

How does that happen? My friend told me that if you used a Live account it can reset you and I have had another Live account on my system. Also I think it could possibly be because of an update.
Reach has not been updated in a while. I don’t know how it happened other than you signed your account into Xbox Live at some point
I have been reset for some time now.
It actually was a friend account on my system…don´t know if that did the reset or not. Also my brother has been reset twice and he does not have a Live Account.
I feel your pain buddy, I was a Brigadier rank 1 when I got reset. Parents would not let me buy Xbox live when I was younger. Pisses me off too man. I’m a Lt colonel grade 3 now… Never could get back there.
Please don’t revive old topics thanks
