After hearing the recent news about the battle pass/xp progression along with the challenges, this have me concerned as I have heard mixed rumour about there being no xp rank/level up system simmilair to Halo 3, halo 4, halo reach, halo 5 and halo MCC.
Incase your confused I am on about an xp progression system like halo reach’s max rank inheritor or Halo 5’s Max Spartan Rank 152.
If there is no XP progression system in halo Infinite at launch or not at all then this will make the game incredibly stale after completing the seasonal battle passes. No sense of progression or showing how long you have been grinding the game for.
Only a few thousand players ever hit 152. I know not everyone is supposed to hit, but the most dedicated. Just feels like a long pointless slog. I would much prefer to progress doing something out of the ordinary rather than just playing the same mode repeatedly that gives the most exp.
I’ve heard on general reddit feeds that the ranking system will be similar to Halo 5, I can’t verify the source though. I’m glad you’re bringing this up as the ranking system was one of the best features of Halo 3! I really hope that they mirror that system as much as possible, at least having separate “ranked” playlists and levels.

It’s because in the Halo Infinite flight there was a message accidentally left in that confirmed placement games and tier ranks Bronze to Onyx.

i’m not familiar with the Halo 5 ranking system as they lost me after Halo 3. It sounds like a good system at first glance though, glad there will be a differentiation between ranked and social matches.
I can see what you are saying about progression and/or playing the game may begin to feel a little stale after completing a battle pass for a season. It’s always nice to feel like you are always earning something or grinding something even if it is just for show. While there is no indication that there will be any thing like a spartan rank that is leveled up purely through XP like Halo 5 or Halo Reach, I’m sure that they will add something like it down the line, especially because there seems to be a group of players who want something like that. I’m personally okay with battle pass being leveled up only through challenges, although my ideal system would be that the battle pass can be slowly leveled up just through normal game experience, and challenges give you a large burst of XP when completed similar to MCC.

You play 10 games and during these “placement” games the system decides based on various metrics how well you are playing Vs what opponents. So you could start out Vs Gold opponents and if you do really well it tries you out against the next tier up, Platinum. You might not do so well now so it will try you with Gold again etc etc. After placement games you can rank up or down based only on wins and losses, however if you play really well you will gain more rank for a win and lose less rank for a loss over time so the system can get you to the rank you are playing like.
It’s unconfirmed if it will be identical to Halo 5 but in that game there were 6 numbers per tier so lowest is Bronze 1, but once you get to Bronze 6 you can rank up to Silver 1. It goes Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond all with 6 ranks in each. Finally above Diamond is Onyx which is the highest tier. It doesn’t have numbers 1-6 but a raw CSR score starting with the number 1,500. If you fall below 1,500 you are back in Diamond 6, but there is no cap on how high you can go. The top 200 players per playlist in Onyx have a special rank called Champion with a number after to dictate how high they are. The top player in the playlist is Champion 1.
Every few months (whatever they consider a season) the ranks are reset and you do your placement games again but the system does remember where you were last season and your games will be with people around that rank. The highest you can place after placement games is Diamond 3 and then you rank up purely by winning games.
Here is a link to the system, in my opinion it is a great ranking system and consistently provides close and exciting matches at all rank levels whether you are in Silver or Diamond, it doesn’t matter. I think anyone who likes close games or even if social has too many high skill players then competitive is a great place for them to go to be with and against people of their own skill level.

> just needs a xp rank to show how much you played. Almost every other halo game has one, would be a shame if infinite didn’t even after a 1 year delay.
