I have recently gotten back to playing Halo 5 at a more frequent schedule and have noticed that it is noticeably harder to gain CSR than to lose it.
I play solo, match against higher ranks, and only get 1/5th the CSR points from winning than the drop in CSR after losing
In both scenarios, winning or losing, I’m always against higher ranks and my teammates ranks and mine are always comparable to the other team.
The last 8 games are a perfect example of what I’m typing about.
Anyone else having the same issue? Is it about hidden skill?
Either way, I hope this gets fixed because it is starting to get frustrating.
This new system makes no sense and seems very unfair.
Other day I won 2 games back to back (very sweaty games) and gained 1 csr total.
I know it goes based on teammates and their ranks as well but it definitely seems broken.
Especially when you win a slayer match 50-49 and everyone yelling & screaming callouts, and at the end you get 0 csr; then play the same team again and lose, and lose 10 csr. Like bro? I really hope Halo Infinite does not adapt this ranking system.

Exactly my point, and I’m sure this is something new since I never reached that high win percentage and was still stick in the same rank for weeks.
I know it is almost a 5 year old game and 343 are working on Infinite but someone really needs to look into this broken system especially that lack of support for older games might reflect badly on future sales.
Any idea when and why this new system was adopted?
It has nothing to do with how close the game was, and it has everything to do with your true MMR.
(your TRUE CSR that’s invisible)
meaning,
normally I play in upper onyx / champion tiers,
BUT, because of placements, I’m now back at Diamond 3.
- for me, I can lose 9/10 placement matches and still be placed there because the game knows my true CSR.
there are also other factors that come into play, like your KDA
…
also, piggy backing off of true CSR / MMR,
not all ranks are created equal.
meaning, you could be playing against Diamond 3s
- some could have barely made it there, having a negative KDA
- while others could be far beyond with double digit, positive KDA
So long story short,
just be consistent with your performances, racking up nice positive KDAs; and as long as you keep winning, you’ll be fine.
and even if you’re not ranking up as well as you’d like,
… so what?
its just a rank at the end of the day…
whether your champion #1 or bronze 1,
all that really matters is that you’re having a good time and enjoying yourself
keep it light

KDA doesn’t matter…it’s KPM (kills per minute) vs your expected KPM and deaths per minute. There’s some more detailed explanations in the matchmaking feedback threads.

Oh wow, I had no idea.
but yeah, as a general rule of thumb,
better performances + consistency = ranking up
I reached my target rank in slayer against those odds so I will not be stressing about it much (and will not play the playlist until the next season) but, imo, it needs reconsideration for the following reasons:
- Ranking up or down should be based on your CSR (and MMR) against your opponents’ CSR, not their MMR
- All factors should be taken into consideration when determining MMR, including kills/deaths, damage dealt, assists, player protection
