Rank and social system in Halo infinity?

I wish that the rank and social system will be similar to halo 3. Here is Why:

Halo 3 ranked and social system was the best of all, the ranking 1-50 with EXP of the social is the best. ( can be 1-100)
First is important that the rank system will be hard to get, we all remember the 50 Generals and how good they were playing in halo.
Is also important that all social playlist could contribute with EXP for your rank grade, to get better in your base rank. Who remember the diference between genral grade 1 and 5 stars General??? it was awesome.
Because of this EXP of socila and rank system, Halo 3 was the most played game for so long on xbox live, we players always wanted to gain more and more EXP and of course trying to go to that Amazing 50 next to our nickname.
That´s another thing, i hope we can see the Rank with a number and symbol close to your nickname in LOBBY when waiting for a match, is always nice to see which who AND RANKS we are going to fight, and that´s a reason we wanted so bad that 40 or 50 in Halo 3, we keep playing because of that sssssssssstatusss! i like that of onyx and pro ranks, they should stay in halo infinity, but i dont like the seasons ranking that are reset all the time… that doesnt make sense…
thank you guys and thank you 343 for amazing work, i loved that new multiplayer trailer.

I don’t really have a preference on which system of ranked I like better. I was fine with the Halo 5 ranking system and I was okay with playing placement matches every few months or so in order to get ranked rewards for every season. I think that having ranked seasons gives people an incentive to come back to play, especially if there are cool rewards attached to it. It would be cool if they did something like Rocket League or League of Legends where if you attained a certain rank during a season you would get certain rewards that you could use to show off how skilled you are. This would only really work if seasons were long enough where people could feasibly grind up the ranks without feeling like they need to log in every single day to play.

A way that could work to have both the skill ranking systems of Halo 3 and Halo 5 in one would be to have a visible account skill ranking and a seasonal skill ranking. The seasonal skill ranking could be like Halo 5 where you have to do placement matches every season and then get placed in a rank. Then at the end of the season you would get rewards for getting ranked or for whatever highest rank you got during the season or both. At the start of the next season that skill ranking would reset and you would do placement matches again etc. The account skill ranking could be a skill ranking that would be per ranked playlist. This would persist across your entire Halo Infinite career and could be a 1-50 or 1-100 thing. It could also be a Halo 5 type thing if they wanted where it went Bronze(or whatever the lowest rank was in Halo 5) to Champion. Everyone at the beginning of the game would start out at the lowest rank and through playing the different ranked playlists they would slowly rank up or rank down depending on performance and whether they won or lost. This would of course take a while to get to the highest ranks because it is a lifetime rank, so it should take a bit of work to get to the very top. People would be able to see both your lifetime rank and your seasonal rank if they wanted to, although I guess you could also have the option to hide your rankings if you wanted to.

I think this could be a good way to have a cool way to reward players who play season after season as well as give players a rank to grind up over a long period of time. Of course this probably isn’t perfect as nothing really is, but I think it could work.

I don’t think the old 1-50 would work anymore.

The ‘50’ was too broad - covering everyone from Diamond 3 to Champions.

If they just spread 1-50 evenly over the population then a lot of people who used to be ‘50’ are going to be very frustrated when they are now a ‘37’.

The beauty of the Halo 5 divisions is that it softens the perception of skill difference. You don’t look twice if you see a Gold player and a Platinum player in the same team… yet the difference can be as much as 23 levels on the old 1-50 scale.

Also, we can’t go back to permanent rank of Halo 3. It was abused way too much. So we still need a way to make players keep playing regularly so that the system can keep placing them. I would make it so your rank (current and previous best) is always visible to you… but only visible to the public if you have played ‘x’ number of games in the last ‘y’ days. It doesn’t have to be a lot as TrueSkill only needs a handful of games to find your place in the pecking order.

As for EXP. They are going to have their work cut out for them keeping it relevant for a 10 year game - and they are going to run out of military ranks very quickly. Maybe they will need to keep a simple number (like Halo 5’s 1-152). I would have an exponential type rise from 1 - 150 but then just keep repeating the last level’s requirements ad-infinitium. The race to 1000 should keep the grinders going for the best part of a decade.

I’m glad to see a lot of people talking about how the 1-50 ranks and ranks similar to H3 need to come back cause I feel they absolutely need to for the sake of halo. No other ranking system has made players as addicted or caring of their rank sense! Halo desperately needs 1-50 ranks for sure. I agree with a lot of players that in 2021 there is more than likely a way to modernize the system. We can have that standard progressional rank like the SR ranks from H4-H5 so you’ll always get xp per match but like in H3 cap the base rank at certain levels only requiring the skill rank being 1-50 to move up. You can still accumulate points but you won’t move up till you hit a certain skill level making you dedicate ALOT more time to the game to get better and achieve that goal. That’s why I got stuck to H3 like I did. Me and thousands of others were obsessed with hitting max rank and unless you were a 50, it was not gonna happen. It took me 3 years on my main account to hit my first 50 and when I tell you, the immensity of satisfaction I got from that was insane! I mean I literally would have dreams about hitting 50s after that. That’s an amazing ranking system to have people care that much. And that’s what has been missing since 3 after reach and I feel that definitely contributed to the drop in halos popularity as it now blends in with other games in the market with their call of duty like ranking systems compared to sticking out like H2 and H3 did. A rank is a bragging right and thats what makes players addicted to a game. A ranking system needs to be a grind always but for the truly dedicated, skill needs to be involved so those players that hit max rank are known to others as being really good period! I’m not impressed when people have hit 152 in H5 for example. You can lose every game technically and still get max. It doesn’t tell me your good, just that you have alot of time. Extremely boring! Halo was about earning things other players sought after. Not participation trophies. This isn’t call of duty, it’s halo. I agree ten fold that 1-50 and a similar ranking to halo 3 needs to come back. It could and should be improved upon 14 years later. Halo has never been the same sense 1-50 being replaced by arena ranks, which as a skilled player, you can max out during placement easily and then just maintained. little to no satisfaction every single time.

For social they can do MCCs tour system for levels, and then Halo 5s system for competitive ranks

The main thing I hope for is that we have actual recognizable and meaningful progression.
Halo 5 just gave us numbers and they didn’t look impressive or feel impactful.

I remember in Reach you’d see a guy who was Reclaimer rank and be like “holy crap that guy’s been playing a long time he probably knows his stuff”
The numbers just never inspired the same awe and they didn’t feel good to unlock.

Personally if I designed the system I’d have your rank itself be based on play time like Reach, but i’d put an effect on the rank icon based on your skill level.
For example a skilled lieutenant would have a deep onyx and lightning effect around their bars, whereas a more standard-skill colonel player would just have a soft white glow around the stars.
