random question

Why does majority of people compare Halo to CoD? CoD should be compared to Battlefield, since those games are multi-platform. Halo is xbox exclusive. Gears of War is another xbox exclusive. Why don’t people compare Halo to Gears of War? Or the other way with a Playstation exclusive (i don’t own PS3, so I can’t name any). It’s not really fair to compare two games that are completely different from each other.

Both Halo 4 and current Gears of War:

  1. have default sprint
  2. loadouts (i think)
  3. kill scenes in some way
  4. skins
  5. and maybe more

I think a lot of people will see this and then I’ll realize I started a forum rant, crap.

CoD and Halo are bitter rivals

CoD and battlefield…not so much

Simply because Halo 4 has ideas similar to those in COD, Gears, or BF 3.

What it’s going to come down to is game balance and execution. The only way to find out for sure is by viewing final game footage pre release and playing the actual game.

I put time in Black OPs and a few other CODs to tell you right now that even Reach plays nothing like those games as the core is there (static weapon spawns, no ADS or killstreaks etc.). Halo 4 will have similar ideas but i have the feeling it’s still going to Halo.

Halo 4 has copied gears? X0

COD and Battlefield are bitter rivals in the Battlefield community.

> Halo 4 has copied gears? X0

haha, I know. it’s weird how these two games have more similarities, but everyone likes bringing CoD into a thread.

The reason for the comparison probably has to do with both games being FPS. Gears is a TPS game.

true, but that’s why it would make a good comparison battle. one being fps and the other being tps. both play similar, but both are still rivals in my opinion.

Many people compare Halo and COD because everybody knows what it is. I don’t like COD from a Halo community member point of view, but I also don’t like COD from a BF3 community member point of view. I still know what the game is and know its features.

Your kidding . . . haha I spent a few months over on the Battlefield forums at one point . . . if you think what is going on in these forums is bad . . . you haven’t really gotten your boots wet.

Let’s just say that the battle between CoD and BF is ten fold on those forums than what it is here.

Games shouldn’t be compared at all. They all evolve to make something beautiful, similar? Yes, at some times, but not all the same.

In every FPS or even “Shooter game” forum there is, CoD is the main rival/enemy. That’s true for Homefront, Crysis, Battlefield, Halo, Gears, etc etc.
However, CoD is not a rival to those games, those games are rival to CoD. The only game that could rival CoD so far is Halo, the other lacks the sales and power to do so.

OnT:
Halo is more similar to CoD, then BF is to CoD. Battlefield is big maps, tactics, classes that matter, heavy vehicle gameplay and no or very bad campaign that is more of a tutorial. Halo is a mix between the big battles of Battlefield, and the small, hectic run and gun from CoD. I always hoped Halo would grow like Battlefield and be bigger, better, more teamwork and players, not shrink and become a stale CoD wanna be.
But since it’s p2p networking even 16 players are hard enough to find without major lag, and maps and vehicles sure are limited. These days I prefer Homefront, 32 players and dedicated servers, glorious weapon balance and focus on teamplay although one good player could make a large difference. Instant trueskill re-balancing teams after each game, it’s everything HAlo could have been, and should have been by now.
