Random mid-game disconnects. Any Solutions?

Since the december update got released, I regularly dsconnect mid-game at random. At least one disconnect per day.
Sometimes I d/c a few matches in a row.
Now I’m just trying to figure out what causes this and and how I can prevent this from happening.
Since there is no error message being displayed I don’t know what to do.

Other threads regarding this issue were lacking any sort of answer.

Anyone know more?

Quit playing on Taco Bell WiFi.

Get a direct ethernet connection, vs wifi. Ensure your NAT is open. There is plenty of information on the web on how to get both.

Cmon, no reason to ridicule.

I’m playing on a wired connection from EU with a latency of 130ms to the microsoft diagnosis server . NAT is open.
60/20 Mbit Down/Up.
Is it to believe that I’m lagging out tho? Noone else is using my connection and my computer doesn’t use a lot of bandwith at all. (I monitor my computer)

Edit: 60 Down 20 Up

Hmmm, below are my stats, I have not had disconnects, maybe your ISP?:

I am in the northeast USA. The latency according my xbox detailed network statisics: 87 ms.
ISP: Cablevision
Connection Type: Ethernet
NAT: Open
Download speed: 26.96 mbps
Upload speed: 25.96 mbps
Packet loss: 0%
MTU: 1480
Latency: 87 ms

Guess I’ll be contacting my ISP then and ask them about random hiccups in my connection or something.
Maybe my router is just garbage. Not experiencing anything negative on other devices nor games tho.
Oh well. Makes me wish they’d just put some kind of error there instead of nothing.
Edit: MTU is 1480, If that matters at all

I’m fairly certain it’s the servers? I’m not a tech guy, but my multiplayer is for the most part running smoothly, but I get disconnects all the time since Christmas when I play Halo 5. Never had that problem from launch to December 20ish. Now it’s very hit or miss. A lot of disconnects, a lot of other people are reporting this problem as well.

You say it’s happening once per day? That sounds like an issue I had with my old router. I was getting kicked out of online games exactly every hour and a half, on the dot.

Turned out there was a bug in the IP lease renewal on my router, which caused it to drop connection. The protocol for this, tries to renew at exactly half the lease time provided by your ISP, which is 3 hours for me (so dropping every hour and a half).

If your ISP has a lease time of 24 hours, which is pretty common, that could be a potential culprit.

My old router was an older Netgear model. (I replaced it with a newer Netgear model which is fantastic though)

Sounds like a place to start. Will update if it gets better.

Checked things out with my ISP. No logged drops or problems. Router replaced, nothing changed. Since this started happening after the december update
I’m forced to believe this has to do with 343 getting rid of servers.
Taking a break from halo now as when I’m not disconnecting, I’m still connecting to US servers most of the time which sucks.

I have the exact same problem. I played… probably actual days (i.e more than 24 hours of game-time) worth of Halo 5 before the December update; I had no drop issues of any kind. After the December Halo update, I’ve been dropped a truly ridiculous amount of times, despite this basically forcing me off the game (I’ve been banned a couple times from dropping). I’ve hard-reset both my xbox and the router; it’s a direct ethernet connection to the router, and my computer using wifi from the same router say my internet has 19 ms ping, 27.2 Mbps download and 6.41 Mbps upload speed right after the last disconnect. Most of the times I’m disconnected while playing with friends, I’m not disconnected from the party, and can continue communicating with them just fine through the disconnect (but can’t rejoin because of a … let’s say interesting… design decision on 343’s part).

I’ve even completely uninstalled and reinstalled halo 5. Still kicked in the first game back.

I’m in Portland, OR; I’m a 3 hour drive from Redmond and Bellevue. I almost can’t believe there could be a server problem with me, being so close to Microsoft, that my friends in the midwest don’t have.

Does anyone know of any possible fixes for this? Or is this a problem with 343?

Your only option is to pray to the Precursors so that they may hold your connection strong.

I’m having the exact same problem right now too. First day playing in about a month or so and I randomly disconnected about 8 times over a 6 hour period. It just loads back to the home screen and says I’m offline, even though I’m still on Xbox Live… It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the damn banhammer that gets longer each time it happens. It’s not my fault! Hope they fix this soon.

My suggestion is:

  1. Do a Hard Reset of your Console. Press and hold down xbox power button until it turns off.
  2. Ethernet Cable > Wi-Fi
  3. Make sure no one else is using the internet. (Especially if someone is streaming)

These have all helped me to not disconnect with Halo 5’s Servers. Good Luck!

Get a direct ethernet connection

I believe this to be correct. I get kicked randomly as well. My connection is fine.

Same exact thing happens to me. I am using ethernet connection, my internet is fine be all other games and pretty much anything that I’m online for. I randomly get dropped from games without any pattern whatsoever. It is extremely frustrating.
