Could the fragments of Cortana’s Rampant processes end up reassembled in the domain and could a fractured, rampant, and vengeful Cortana be the only blind spot Master Chief has that could lead him so far astray and into fueling a AI vs organics war.
The thing that brought me to this conclusion is a scene rehearsal that someone else brought to my attention in The Sprint : Episode 2 Osiris
Halsey: “I tried to warn you this was happening.”
Lasky: “He’s gone in search of her.”
Halsey: “You let him go?”
Roland: “How is it that–”
Palmer: “Nobody lets the Chief do anything. He does what he wants.”
Lasky: “Until zero-thirty-six this morning where he was declared absent without leave.”
Roland: “This isn’t about the Master Chief…”
Halsey: “John is not equipped emotionally to deal with her as a threat.”
Roland: “HEY! Is anyone going to listen to me?”
Lasky: “You’re out of line, Roland.”
Roland: “Yes sir, but so is everyone else!
EDIT: I just realized that was rude, so my apologies. Now, I’m going to politely say that we all need to get over Cortana, and that a plot with Rampant Cortana as the villain wouldn’t be that great in my opinion.
The real question is how that illusion of Cortana is able to give Chief new infos (Reclamation, Domain open, Meridian) if she is solely a product of Chief’s subconscious.
I’m 100% sure that she won’t be the villian - but probably someone (Flood, Forerunner) is using an illusion of her to manipulate Chief.

Thank Christ. I’m probably the only one, but I never really cared for cortana. I could get past all the new things added to halo 4, but when I realized the whole campaign was about her I couldn’t touch the campaign for a while. It wasn’t till I decided to complete all the campaigns in MCC on heroic that I finally slogged through it.
I think part of the story is going to be about the Chief believing she is still alive only to find that whatever is attacking everything is deceiving him
I extremely doubt it. Maybe there could be slips of her in the game because Master Chief is still not over her, but I don’t think she will make that kind of come back to TH Halo game.
Honestly, doesn’t it make sense if the Librarian’s AI took Cortana to the Absolute Record or something like that? They said she was dead, yes they did, they never said she won’t make a return. Also, they wouldn’t say she survived that would be similar to a spoiler, simple as that.

I’m 100% certain she’ll return. After beating H4 I never got the sense that she was gone forever and knew she’d appear in H5 in one form or another.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m ok with either she being dead or alive, as long its provides a good story for future games.
