I don’t really know how this would work, but here it goes.
Imagine if dynamic weather would be implemented into Halo 4’s multiplayer.
Such as rain, or other weather events. I honestly think that having rain occur randomly on certain maps would add a unique layer of game-play to Halo 4.
Imagine you were playing on Halo 3’s map Standoff and it gradually became darker and began to storm. The Warthog’s headlights would turn on and the ground would light up with gun fire.
That would be really awesome actually, it’s an idea I would love to see implemented into the game! Not only would it be visually interesting, it would in fact add that extra layer of strategy (like you said), since the game would shift from longer range battles to more close quarters combat.
Rain (and fog) and internet connections that are being stressed thanks to 8-16 people playing on a map generally don’t go well together.
Just take a look at how laggy Backwash was back in the days. Or how Bungie decided to tone down rain to an absolute minimum on Holdout compared to that area in campaign.
Yes, it is moody and looks cool…but in the end, I favor a smooth running map over one that looks nice but lags as hell and is no fun to play thanks to that.
It’s something else for campaign I guess. But weather and multiplayer: bad combo.

It might be difficult to do on P2P network, but on dedicated servers (Which I don’t think Halo 4 will have) it might be a different matter.
Look at Grand Bazaar on Battlefield 3 (Don’t flame me!) it pours like crazy on that map and it creates a good level of immersion. Been a Battlefield fan since 1942 and a Halo fan since CE so don’t get mad at me for bringing it up haha.
I would like that idea, take Crysis (2007’s) multiplayer it had heavy rain and it worked very well adding a layer of unique gameplay whenever it would happen. I would like a system to control the weather so like maybe at random intervals have the rain calm down and go back up.

Internet connection has little to do with a particle system.

Crysis did it and it worked very well, almost all maps had variations of weather depending on the server settings and only made the multiplayer have an atmospheric feel with an added touch of skill because of the lack of vision and what not.
That would be cool. Also as time progressed , it would be cool if the map would form puddles and maybe the ground would get slippery so that vehicles would drift whenever they turn. When vehicles go through a puddle or when a spartan jumps into a puddle, it would look cool to see a nice splash effect when they enter and leave the puddle.
> I wouldn’t mind varied weather conditions, but i prefer a somewhat colourful, happy feel to Halo’s multiplayer over a gloomy sad tone.
Me too, I was just thinking about it, imagine a bright match of Vahalla and all of a sudden lightning strikes and it becomes dark. It would be kind of cool, to me at least.
Also, coming from the guy that played Truth and Reconciliation about 1000 times in 2001-2005

The way you said that made Halo 4 look like it’s going to be a lot more epic.
It would definitely be interesting, but I think it would be a waste of 343’s time. It just doesn’t seem like that it really adds enough to make it worthwhile in terms of development time and cost.

I kind of agree with this to be honest. I would rather have amazing maps and competitive gameplay, than weather.
Not really sure if it would work in just some slayer map randomly, but I think it would be really awesome in some kind of invasion map. As more stages were unlocked, the weather would change, drastically changing gameplay (lower visibility, slippery surfaces)

yeah nice idea, like it,but it should no influence our visibility/sight
