Railgun = Spartan Laser

Am I the only person who thinks that the Spartan Laser should not be omitted from infantry only maps just b/c there are no vehicles?

Sure the main sticking point of the Spartan Laser is that it is an anti vehicle weapon but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t serve a purpose on smaller maps. The gun has a certain element of skill gap when it comes to using it properly under the circumstances of smaller maps. Knowing when to charge the gun when turning a corner so that you can essentially have it ready in case you see anyone is a great dynamic to gameplay and certainly makes things more interesting than having a sniper on every map.

Just like the Grenade Launcher was a mini Rocket Launcher, why can’t the same thing be done with the Spartan Laser? Construct had a Spartan Laser and while it was kind of gimmicky it was fun to use and did take skill. Why can’t Boardwalk have the top sniper replaced with a Spartan Laser when that position is so overpowered? The map is so open and the height advantage provides great cover for players in that position its better off to have a delayed response weapon like the Spartan Laser than an instant kill one like the Sniper.

Little things like this go a long way in not only balancing maps but also spicing up the gameplay. Even if the Spartan Laser is not used on infantry only maps we have the Railgun which is the equivalent. Reach has a severe lack of Spartan Laser (not one map features it despite it being more balanced with not only a lower clip but weaker damage) and finally come Halo 4 the infantry combat of the Spartan Laser will be realized in the form of the Rail Gun.

To be fair? the spartan laser, while powerful, and requiring some level of skill to use, is redundant in infantry only maps.

In the time it takes to charge up your shot you could’ve already killed the target with the BR/DMR.

Granted, you could potentially kill more than one target with a single shot, so I’ll give you that one.

It really just comes down to damage v necessity, I guess.

It does serve a certain niche and sometimes its better to offset the redundancy and overpowered nature of two snipers by replacing one of them with a spartan laser.

The example I provided was of Boardwalk. The top sniper position is so over powered b/c the opposite side of the map is so open anyone who is caught in the open has no chance to defend themselves. When it comes to the laser you can ping the player charging the shot and save yourself or your teammates whereas that is hardly ever the case with the sniper. Boardwalk certainly benefits from a spartan laser but not many other maps do. A spartan laser on Countdown is very out of place.
