Rail gun

Anyone else feel this is the UNSC’s equivalent/ Enhanced version of the covenants Concussion rifle?

Maybe.

I do wonder why they call it a railgun when you can clearly see magnetic coils in the barrel, though.

I think its name comes from what it does to enemies.

It is more then likley the UNSC equivalent of the concussion rifle and brute shot though it seems a bit more accurate.

I find it more like a mini Spartan Laser more than anything else.

Someone on the forums actually refered to it as a handheld gauss, wich to be honest sounds about right.

Depends on what you’re shooting at.

I think in the bulletin, one of them said is was like a junior laser.

I like to believe that it is basically a Handheld-MAC Cannon.

because a gauss gun would sound too much like this Cannon

and calling it a MAC gun will make too many people look like this

No, the GL was. Now it’s the SD.

It’s a new category.

No it’s a 1SK, charges before firing and has no arc to its shot… It’s its own beast that demands both the Brute Shot and Concussion Rifle to kneal before Zod.

. . . do you know what a rail gun is?.

Railgun

Coilgun (MAC cannon)

there’s a difference

They said its charged time is really fast and has a decent skill curve to it. I just wonder how hard it is to fire it?

Yes you can see the coils required to power the rails of the weapon. Capacitors and coils are used to create resonant frequencies that can create very high voltages. These short circuit voltages can be used to store and expel energy very quickly into devices that use DC and AC controlled mechanics (can’t have a resonance circuit in DC, it’s an AC thing). It is likely that Rail Gun has a DC-type powersupply, but that power is also very likely to be converted (or if you will, inverted) to AC to transfer energy safely through the weapon to the locations where the energy is then stored and expelled in explosive DC form. The weapon can be built without the double-conversion, but funny enough, the double-conversion circuits often lead to smaller designs, not larger.
Now that was just the quicky on energy supply/transferring, the main point is that the Rail Gun clearly shows a 2-pronged configuration for the rails of the projectile to ride on while accelerating.
The prongs could not only be just the rails, but the capacitance plates charged by the circuits of the weapon itself. In theory it can all work. Hmm, thanks giving me the oppourtunity to think about this in more detail.

Kinda, but it’s a one shot kill, isn’t it? It’s more like a Pro Pipe. Or handheld gauss turret if anything.

Railgun in Halo remids me of the one in Quake for some reason… A sniper laser…

Now if only in Halo we could personalize of own railgun tracers

The one in Quake??? Nah…that thing is basically a sniper. But it does look awesome. Like a Quake rail-gun

That’s what I thought when I first saw it.
