Rail Gun Thoughts & "Skill"

What do you guys think of the rail gun? Think it will take any “skill”?

> What do you guys think of the rail gun? Think it will take any “skill”?

Just about everything take some form of skill, and every weapon in Halo does to an extent. A far as this weapon goes, It will most likely be the successor to the concussion Rifle, or the Brute Shot.

How can we know at this point?

Besides: there is always some form of skill required to be able to use any gun properly or at least to its full potential.
From the looks of it the Rail Gun is like an UNSC version of the Plasma Repeater. So if it also acts pretty similar to that gun, you basically already have your answer (minus the awkward leading of bullets from the Plasma Repeater)

I’m sure it will be a balanced weapon.

I would describe it more as a mini Gauss cannon packed with less power. After all, a rail gun fires too quickly for the projectiles to be like in Brute Shot and Concussion rifle. The best way to describe it is probably a combination of sniper rifle and the Gauss cannon. Will it take skill? Hard thing to say when we only know very little about the weapon.

Then again, this is something I wouldn’t like to see. Such blind trust is on the verge or being irritating. You may have your own opinion, but sometimes thinking might be a useful thing to do. It might get you to the result that with this amount of information, nothing is certain. What you said is truly a bold assumption that should be avoided.

I think it looks amazing! And I think it’s going to be a pretty cool weapon to use.

I could be wrong here but i think its going to be the “Noob” weapon of Halo 4 like any game has one.

EDIT: then again it could be very balanced, and a very decent weapon.

Railguns shoot bullets at re-entry speeds, 20 times faster than conventional weapons. Even though we have very little information pertaining to it, it’s safe to assume it will be nothing like AR or either of the PRs. After all, it is a railgun.

I know it’s called the rail gun but besides that, do we actually know anything about it other than the name?

It is a human weapon, it will most likely have a charge time and limited ammo (obviously)

Ah crap, wasn’t paying attention and wrote about a machinegun…lame. Thanks for the heads up mate.

i wonder if it will fire somewhat like the laser where you have a short-ish charge time before it fires.

There really isn’t much to say either way. The only defining quality of rail-guns in video games is that they fire projectiles really fast (which probably means hit-scan or somewhere close to that). I would say hit-scan takes some of the skill out of using the weapon (instead of carefully leading your shots), but with Halo 4 not having dedicated servers non hit-scan weapons suffer from bad hosts on a P2P system which makes it worse than the hit-scan counterparts (on P2P).

machine gun

light machine gun

The plasma repeater and plasma rifle are basically assault rifles. The plasma turret is basically the machine gun.

A true “noob weapon” is a weapon you can use at any point in time and can grant you easy kills e.g. noob tube in Modern Warfare. That’s why I wouldn’t say Halo has any “noob weapons”, nor will it most likely ever have as the weapons that we get off spawn are either not very powerful or hard enough to use. Every weapon that grants easy kills on the other hand, is on the map as a pick up. If at some point in time Halo has a weapon that can be defined as a “noob weapon”, a weapon that irritates everyone but that many players still use, then the game has truly failed.

Well considering it is called a Rail gun, I hope it causes huge explosions hehehe…
