Ragnarok feels to one sided because Mantis.

Whenever I seem to join a match or start one on Ragnarok it feels like the Mantis makes the map to controllable. Whatever Mantis survives weather red team or blue team whatever one wins the first face off that team is going to spawn trap the hell out of you which is no fun. :frowning: Long story short I have yet to play a Big Team Infinity Slayer match on that map where one team is getting destroyed badly.

Possible maybe to make the Mantis have a ā€œneverā€ respawn time when it gets destroyed. I don’t know all I know is you guys need to figure out to make that map work with the Mantis still involved so you don’t have to remove what you wanted to put in.

…or just put anti vehicle weapons on the map. You know, how Halo used to be?

i think the spartan laser would help you out. or the SD

I actually haven’t noticed it being too much of an issue or game changer, to be honest. I disagree that one team has a disadvantage if they lose their mantis right away, the map still plays well and plus theirs will respawn eventually.

your problem is in-experience dealing with mantis. yes to a degree they can control a portion of the map with it. but if you use team-work a mantis falls fast. Distracting it with a banshee or jetpack can deter a mantis. they have a habit for aiming for air bound targets making it very susceptible to a ground attack, either boarding or heavy weapons fire…

hell i took a mantis or two down yesterday with a warthog…

> …or just put anti vehicle weapons on the map. You know, how Halo used to be?

Spartan Laser, Rocket Launcher, and Anti-Vehicle Sniper not enough?

I didn’t have this problem.

I played a game where my team totally forgot about the Mantis for the first 3 minutes, and I managed to destroy the enemy Mantis withing the 1st minute with the Spartan Laser. I think that should be your priority in Ragnarok at the beginning.

Just try not to get gunned down if the Mantis sees you.

And it’s not like you are completely helpless against a Mantis if you are a a bit further away from it. The Mantis Driver’s shields can be taken down pretty quickly.

Never had the problem. To me it seemed like it would be taken out rather quickly. I boarded 2 of them yesterday and it was pretty easy.

Are you serious? You spawn with a plasma pistol. You can easily make them sitting ducks.

Death from above - While my team distracts the Mantis on the ground, I stay out of it’s line of site and jet pack over to it, dropping down to board and feed it a grenade. It’s bitter sweet, because it’s usually followed by it’s team mates, but ā€œthe needs of the manyā€¦ā€ and all that.

This can’t be serious. The Mantis is an amazing ā€˜assist’ machine. It’s not a ā€˜storm the base and dominate everyone’ type of vehicle. Are you just rushing at it with an AR or something? My time with the Mantis made me realize it is not OP’d at all but helps hold the middle down extremely well.

And if you don’t run a Plasma Pistol/Plasma Grenade/Invis class to take down vehicles, you are idiotic.

Ah yes, with the weapon system that is completley random? look at the facts.

Halo 3 Valhalla balanced it well. You had stickies/Missile pod/Energy drain in your base (where you spawned) to help you out, as well as a laser regularly spawning IN THE SAME PLACE IN INTERVALS.

None of the above is in the base in Rag, or on the map. Oh, and you spawn right in the open by turret now lol. Add in DMR’s to stop movement.

Valhalla was made in a game where you could not cross map. The DMR is great, but it breaks this map to the point that its laughable.

THIS is why 343 needs to invite the best players to test stuff out. Ragnorak was tested by 343, i.e.e AR pray and spray players, and Mantis drivers.

That thing is toooo easy to kill! (maybe not so to the less veteran players) There are soo many creative ways to kill it! The easiest way is use a plasma pistol, it gets disabled and just keep charging as approaching so it stays disabled (It can’t move or shoot its weapon system) (another reason why to add a plasma pistol to your custom loadouts?)

Last time I played on Ragnarok, I was on blue team and red team got both mantises. Within 2-3 minutes the scoreboards were even and there were two flaming mantis hulks laying on the ground. It’s really not that hard to kill them, just get a power weapon, emp it, or board it.

Um…the mantis blows, as well as most vehicles. Its almost as bad as reach with how easy normal weapons can kill vehicles.

You’ve never played a game like TF2 or LOL or anything that has a ā€œmidā€ war have you? Whoever wins the opening fight of a match kinda DESERVES the advantage, wouldn’t you think?

No its pretty easy to take down with teamwork. Next.
