…to one of the most overhyped and awful maps around.
Anyone else starting to hate Ragnarok and wish it away, never to come back?
I’m of the persuasion now to immediately start quitting out of any match on Ragnarok given how bad any game I’ve seem to play on it is. Seems any game I play there eventually times out rather than finishes.
I don’t think it’s a great map, but I don’t hate it either. I think 343i should have ditched Valhalla and remade Blood Gulch/Coagulation, though. I think most people enjoyed that map a lot more and it would have been a great dose of nostalgia.
I’ve finished all my sessions on that map, but the map is generally imbalanced anyways. I can’t see how this was ever concieved as a competitive map, even when it was originally released. The reason why maps like blood gulch have been a loved map is because it’s balanced, no one has any advantage over the other team just because of where they spawn initially. The players near the water have to fight towards a cliff while the inland players just have to stroll to the top of the cliff to fire down upon the other team. This map might be good for some custom variant that might resemble a D-Day beach attack, but as of right now, if teams are of equal skill level, the inland team can easily dominate the other team because of initial placement.

To fix the flaws with Blood Gulch.
If there was ever a heat map for Blood Gulch, I’m pretty sure it would look like a giant circle with two big dots on either end of that box canyon.
Valhalla had it’s own set of faults. Ones that have been replicated in Ragnarok.
At the very least it should get pulled from rotation in anything other than BTBIS.
Raggy is this generations Hemorrhage; excited for it the first game, then after that its painful as **** the rest of the games lifespan and EVERYONE votes for it every time its there
It’s okay for BTB, but it does need tweaking and a lower voting percentage, since it gets voted for way too often. I haven’t even gotten a chance to play other BTB maps yet!
With the Banshee and Mantis dominating the vehicle scene, the Spartan Laser and Rocket Launcher need to be dropped on the map consistently. The lack of ammo pickups also hinders players since running out of ammo for your DMR/Light Rifle is pretty much a death sentence.
Finally, I think it should not be featured in any playlists outside of 8v8 and Team Snipers (if or when it drops). 5v5 doesn’t play well on this map, not in Halo 3’s social slayer, and definitely not here.
Ragnarok/Valhalla is basically a different version of Blood Gulch. There is always a canyon type 2 base map in all the Halo’s, Blood Gulch, Coagulation (I think), Valhalla, Hemorrhage and Ragnarok. I love these types of maps, I find them alot of fun to play. I do hope Guardian makes a return, or construct, and The Pit too!
