Radar vs. No Radar

What are some reasons that people have for either?

Personally, I feel that Radar takes away from the game in a major way. People get tunnel vision and just stare at their radar to guide their moves. It’s so much better to go off your own intuition and develop your awareness and skill as a player without it.

What are everyone else’s thoughts? Really I’m looking for justification as to why you think it benefits the game, but any comments can lead to conversation.

I prefer no-radar because it encourages teamwork. If a team doesn’t communicate to make up for a lack of radar they will lose.

i love radar, however the ONLY time i will accept no radar is on:

Slayer Pro
Team SWAT
Team Snipers
Team Throwback

Radar is halo. I am used to it by now and I like to have it in game.

I prefer no radar. People are so dependant on it, and they just spam grenades whenever they see red. Although I do like playing in games with radar too, which is why I’m glad Slayer Pro has been added to Infinity Slayer and Big Team Infinity Slayer. It gives both playlists a mix of both types of slayer variants.

No radar sucks. Those times where I stop for a minute at one spot before moving on (even to catch my breath), I hate feeling like I have to constantly turn around to check if anyone’s behind me…

Not looking forward to Big Team Pro.

I prefer it… It’s been there since day 1 so it fits canonically. And honestly I find it way more interesting with radar than without. I’d rather not spend the majority of my time spinning in circles Just to get a 360* view of things.

I wouldn’t mind trying out a different kind of radar, though. Maybe one that isn’t so precise. Or maybe something that provides situational awareness without spelling out exactly where any enemy is in relation to you. I’m always down for trying new things.

Radar is an integral and barebone classic feature of halo that separates it from the majority of shooters. It discourages ambush fighting by hiding around corners and back whacking. Thanks to radar, you have a good chance of noticing the dot disappearing next to that doorway coming up.

It makes halo less of a “who shoots first” game and more of a battle between two players. Using the radar means both players have a chance of knowing what is coming, the “you know where I am now lets see if you are good enough to do something about it” argument.

Anyone who still gets tunnel vision with the radar either is not an experienced halo player, was used to non-radar games or gametypes and find it distracting, or needs to learn that the radar is only supposed to be glanced at rather than stared at.

And lastly, as a lone wolf player (even when playing with people I know), it is how I effectively keep track of who is where. It is easier now that it shows depth, and I would be fine if it just went back to the halo 3 version of radar that doesn’t show depth makes it less of an exact science.

^Exactly
Radar, not all of us have a team so some of us go solo on MM and I’m usually the one who carries up my team. Wouldn’t do much difference if I tried to speak to them since most of the time I get terrible team mates.

Dependent on your loadouts it makes some of the support upgrades moot.

If I want to play a really competitive game, no radar is a must. You also have to be playing on a full team. You don’t have to be spinning in circles if everyone on your team is accountable for communication. But when I just want to play a bit more casually or go in solo, radar is fine. It depends on what I’m in the mood for. Radar is not something that is really debated. It is needed in some playlists and shouldn’t be in others. (IF there are custom loadouts and armor abilities, there must be radar. Otherwise PV and Camo will be EXTREMELY overpowered. But that isn’t a problem since slayer pro, swat, throwdown, etc all have preset loadouts without AAs)

It works well for certain gametypes and not for some.

I am a big Mobility dude, so sometimes I’d prefer no radar lol.

Definitely for BTB and Objectives.

I can live without radar in 4v4. I’m used to not having it from lots of SWAT play. But BTB, in my opinion, plays better with radar.

without radar it is luck, peoplke can approach from behind you and you won’t be prepared, it salso makes crouching pointless and it’s basicly the same as cod, motion sensor is why i play halo.

I would prefer having radar.

Communication would help with not having it. But is nonexistent in the majority of games I play.

CoD had radar last I checked…

I want radar, and as people said above its a part of Halo gameplay.

The problem is that every time I wanna play gametypes without AAs and infinity settings, I’m also stuck with playing without radar.

Adding radar to a Slayer Pro type of game would bring me closer to the classic playlist I long for.

People need to start using the correct lingo.

Radar, has always worked correctly and always has. Shows sound markers when players make louder sounds then normal. Firing, Falling, stairs, ladder.

Motion Tracker ← What Halo uses, is bad for gameplay. You should never always see movement. Halo needs to start implementing a RADAR system and drop this motion tracker crap.

I prefer no radar because it’s much easier to get assassinations.
