So as far as I can recall I remember Halo Reach radar being at 25m, making it a very useful tool to use whilst fighting and also colour in such a bright way that it was easier for your peripherals to pick up when someone appeared on it, yet not too easy that everyone would notice it. Now the colours on the radar have been muted so they’re nowhere near as vibrant (which is weird because all the other colours in the games are on the spartans) so you have to actively move your eyes to the radar just to check if anyone is nearby, and then the range is so close it becomes practically useless unless you’re right below someone on a different level, because the game speed is so much faster there is no time to plan your next move or even react fast enough. Whilst I certainly do not like quite a few changes they’ve made to Halo, I find this one the most annoying especially when playing competitively.
The radar in Halo 5 is only 18m instead of 25. They also did some radar changes a few months back, but I don’t really remember what they were about other than maybe something with crouching? Anyway, I think radar is still an important part of the game even though it’s different from previous games. You can tell when a player is not using their radar, it makes a big difference.

Would you say it is worse or better than previous Halo games? As whilst I still use my radar I find it nowhere near as useful as before, but that is only my personal opinion from my experience.

idk if I would say it’s necessarily any better or worse, but you have to use it differently now. I tend to use it more for vertical play than anything else, knowing when to drop down on an enemy or finding where they are above you for your teammates is helpful.
Warzone is still 25m. I feel like 18m is too small for how fast paced the game is which doesn’t make it that useful and I don’t really even notice the differences for vertical height compared to previous games.
I will say that I can’t believe I got used to Reach’s tracker with all that motion blur going on. That’s all I notice when I do play Reach now.
18 is WAY too small. So… we have better movement capabilities in this game… and yet the motion tracker range is increased? Something is very wrong. It’s like it was made to appeal to those people who want zero motion tracker. But that’s not really core halo… Halo’s motion tracker.
And even the HCS motion tracker… No… The thing about the motion tracker is that you should see enemies when they’re moving around, only if someone really goes sneaky, crouching for instance, should they be invisible. So yeah, the motion tracker is probably the worst in this one. Also, the lack of up or down indicators of enemy locations is pretty bad. It’s less information that players have to make right decisions.

Yeah this radar is the worst. It doesn’t seem to show people moving really fast which is just dumb. I get killed all the time by people who never appeared on radar. And they aren’t crouching, Personally, I feel it’s dumb to have crouch evade radar. Either it sees people or it doesn’t - illogical to think something like a crouch makes you invisible to radar or a motion tracker. I would prefer crouch to go away entirely so people can’t -Yoink!-.

I think that it would be too easy if you could see longer. You should have callouts so you dont even need raedar.

But doesn’t that then take away from core Halo? Surely callouts should be for long range engagements and getting your team in position, whereas close range engagements should be with the motion tracker so you can focus on your personal movement instead of your teams positioning. Having the radar boosted from 18m to 25m makes a lot of distance but it doesn’t make the radar too big to see enemies from ages away. I’ve been in rooms where I have no idea someone is behind me because the radar is so small, then by the time they’ve appeared in the radar it’s too late to turn round because the movement speed of the game has been increased, makes it even easier for assassinations when they have the thruster boost to kill me with. I just feel like the radar almost has no use anymore, and lacks all the information you need. Halo: Reach’s motion tracker was the best one IMO.

I think that whitout radar would be better if walking would be louder.

Except it’s mostly useless. On small maps it only gives a vague indication of where the player was, by the time the player try’s to counter then the radar will have got the player killed for trusting it. In Warzone it’s just mostly useless to a point where I don’t even care to look at it most of the time, only take a look when capturing bases to see how many enemy’s are attempting to counter my capture to see if some look like there entering/leaving.

You just have to use it a bit differently than before. It shows you the direction of all your teammates even if they are not within the range of the radar. You can use this to quickly see where your teammates are dying and then figure out where the enemies are from that. It’s still good for sneaking up on people in close quarters and getting the edge in vertical situations.

Yes I know how it works, I just don’t find it very useful in H5. The range is awful, it’s not good for detecting enemy’s either. I’ve had people at close range show up on my radar from behind and yet there nowhere in sight, just to be ambushed from where I was previously looking. It’s part of the reason why I’m hesitate to trust it so I try to focus on sight/sound to find my enemy instead.

You’re spot on, the radar sucks. Make it like Halo 3, it was just perfect!

That would be nice but don’t think the old radar would work because the sprint in H5 mess’s up how the radar is meant to function because the old radar wasn’t meant to be designed to pick up faster movement controls, which is partly why the H5 radar is so bad.
