Radar Range Too Short

I haven’t seen anyone discussing this, but why is the radar range reduced from previous games down to 18 meters? In almost every game since Halo 2, the radar tracked from 25 meters away which felt comfortable for the game. It’s the only issue I’ve found so far that really annoys me with the muliplayer as I often don’t even have a warning that a player is about to run up on me until they’re already punching me. It makes it difficult to anticipate enemy movements and in a game with sprint, grapples, and thruster packs, it can be insanely hard to make any effective use of the radar. I feel that putting it back to 25 meters is a better move for most players.

Given how the enemy is also invisible on radar when they don’t sprint a larger range would help in detecting them if they do sprint.

Interesting, I actually didn’t realize that myself. That’s also a very different change, I thought as long as you weren’t crouched you could be detected on radar when moving.

yep, it allows for a lot more sneak attacks and escapes, so having a larger radar range can actually help balance out the issue.

Good to know, then yeah absolutely that just further displays the need to up the radar range.

I didn’t want to make a whole topic for this so I’m glad somebody did.

The maps are bigger now and enemies move faster and even have more traversal options like the grapple hook, I really don’t see the sense in cutting the range down so hard. By the time someone’s come into range they’re usually already beating your face in and on BTB it’s a very common sight to see two players on opposing teams basically back-to-back and completely oblivious to one another. At this point I’m not sure why it’s in the game at all, it’s far more likely to get you killed whilst glancing at it than it is to save your skin.

Personally I enjoy limiting the radar and forcing players to be more aware of the actual environment rather than a UI element. I do think there are bugs with the sound design where sometimes sounds like footsteps and even gunfire don’t play, making situational awareness extremely difficult at times and that’s what I would like to see fixed rather than a buff to radar

Sova I completely agree the sound based gameplay is non existent really, but the maps are bigger than ever before so the choice to trim the radar is a very peculiar one. I think both are issues worthy of being addressed.
