Radar is worthless and Footsteps dont exist

Either make radar not garbage or provide decent footstep audio or preferably both. Please pick one of these options because this game is EXTREMELY frustrating with how often people just pop out of nowhere.

I dont understand why its so difficult to provide functioning footstep audio in a FPS game. If it would require too many resources for too many audio channels I really dont care give me the option and let me decide if I want the performance penalty.

I think they mentioned that they were gonna fix the motion tracker at some.point, I just can’t remember when they said when they would have it out.

Halo isn’t really a game that’s focused on footsteps. It’s not that the system is bad or broken - it’s just not a element of the game. You’re essentially looking for a feature that doesn’t exist. You’re going to have to get used to radar, that’s how Halo works…

Your radar is your close range monitoring system. Players can negate showing up on radar by being invisible or crouching.
Radar isn’t meant to be a mini-map where you can see everything, it’s meant to be a close range tool.
You find other players by going into the map and engaging in combat.

I don’t hear a problem with the footsteps. I have surround sound and I have definitely been able to hear footsteps of those coming up behind me. Of course, that’s in quieter moments, like when guarding the flag or something. You can’t hear footsteps with lots of fighting immediately nearby. Also, players don’t make much noise unless they are sprinting.

Honestly if u don’t have a headset get one, I listen for footsteps in ranked and have no problem hearing where they are at.

Yeah, but the radar as it stands is too short and sometimes doesn’t register motion at all.

Footsteps should be tweaked a bit, especially for ranked where there is no radar. I don’t think it should be super loud or anything but there needs to be SOMETHING you know? Just a light tip tap. Also crouching should remove it.

Do you play Siege by chance too and have the same issue?

Infinite and Siege both have very accurate (When working) sound design. I can typically tell where someone is, what they’re doing/firing with. albeit I’m using quality headphones with an audio interface

Well yes/no on this one, the sound design specifically has noise priority based on threat level. So footsteps are boosted for the person closest to you/posing a threat, etc. It’ll EQ out unimportant stuff slightly, but not in a jarring way. It’s really impressive because you have to actively be “looking” for it to notice the little things they did.

There’s all sorts of stuff like hit splat, reload sounds, etc. Either way I almost never use my radar because if they’re not making sounds they’re also not on radar.

For reference I have Audio Technica AD1000X cans with an Audient iD4 (overkill for 99% of people),
the 500x, 700x, and 900x are commonly on sale via Amazon. Scarlett Solo or Volt 1 interface are great, but most motherboards have quality onboard audio out via the rear port.

IDK about consoles, Astro T40 with their interface or Epos H6Pro (open-back, always open-back for gaming/accuracy vs muddy lowers with closed-back in games)

I’m sure surround 7.1 or whatever headphone gimmicks have all sorts of cool tech, but stereo/2 driver cans are what headphone audio mixes are designed around. I’ll take 2x 53mm drivers over a bunch of tiny speakers/channels
