Radar is still horrendous

Radar is still only 18m with no plans to fix it? And no, the “22m for BTB” doesn’t count.

@343 would you please make this change, it would be so easy to fix and make a huge difference. Set the radar back to 25m, in all game modes that have radar. It’s just as important in Arena, if not more so, as it is in BTB.

Also, please make the y-axis (vertical) identification clearer. Why is it so subtle in this when in Reach, and even in 4 and 5, it was so clear?

Playing FFA to get the Challenges really drove it home to how useless the Motion Sensor is at its current range(s). I saw what they were thinking - smaller maps, smaller motion sensor -, but. oof, that feeling where I’ll be in these small maps like Streets or Live Fire or Aquarius where everyone else is an enemy and I can’t recall ever seeing a red dot on my Motion Sensor that wasn’t during when I was already shooting/getting shot.

Increasing the range on BTB also just means to increase it just enough to be as useless in Arena, with the consequences even worse when stumbling upon an enemy in BTB can mean there’s 2-3 more of his buddies behind him and you had no idea of it until way too late.

Like I said in another post

I would be down for 25m Motion Sensor in Social Matchmaking but I don’t think this game was designed for a 25m Motion Sensor. Because in the Tech Preview they were using the Ability Radar from Halo 5 HCS but the Casual Community hated that version which is why 343 use the 18m Motion Sensor from Halo 5 instead.

The only problem I have with the classic version are players that rely on it to get kills. The Motion Sensor is for support not to rely upon and camp until someone comes down a hallway. That’s why the so called 18m :expressionless: Motion Sensor was put in place to meet that middle ground for gameplay.

But if I’m being honest the super useful lone wolf :wolf: 25m Motion Sensor is a thing of the past that is good for Campaign but not Multiplayer. Only because most players play with a gaming headset which means they are always listening for footsteps and other sounds in the game. Then the other thing you need to take into consideration is 343 wants players to work as a team with communication by calling out locations and since there’s a Ping System in this game it gives players another opportunity to communicate with players that aren’t in game chat/your party chat or aren’t using a game headset.

But when Forge comes out and the Halo Community starts remaking Classic Halo Maps for Halo Infinite I wouldn’t mind seeing a Classic Playlist with the Classic Motion Sensor for the gameplay experience. :sunglasses:

Now as a side note I would much rather have a 80m Attack Radar that fits all styles of gameplay. Because…

  1. It doesn’t tell you the exact spot where someone is at just the general location.
  2. You only show up on it when you are shooting or using a melee attack.
  3. Having a 80m Attack Radar you basically cover a large portion of the map and you can always find people.
  4. You can move around freely however you want to on any type of map and it speeds up the gameplay experience for everyone.
  5. Players aren’t relying on it to get kills which is annoying to players that are competitive but it still meets that middle ground between Casual and Competitive players.

The current range feels like it is right at sword lunge range

Yeah I do think there’s merits to that style of large radar. The issue I have is an accessbility thing, which is something Halo has always provided for me but now it doesn’t.

I have absolutely trash hearing, and can;t afford a nice noise-cancelling headset to hear footsteps and know where they’re coming from. When I play games like CoD, with that style of radar, I get stabbed or shot in the back constantly cause I don’t hear people coming. Then, I go to sneak up behind someone and they 360 kill me cause they hear me.

The radar in Halo has always made that not an issue for me cause I get a visual representation of what my character can hear. But now, it doesn’t work. I do think not having radar in Ranked is fair, and I think it’d be even better if ranked had what you suggested; a massive radar that only shows abilities and shooting. But for regular playlists, I really just want @343 to bring back the classic 25m radar so I can play this game without getting a massive headache.

Lol now I’m curious if it’s actually smaller than that

Check out my post on this issue, 91% of people agree with you!

Or I should say 132/145 people agree with you. Anyone that says it’s good the way it is is in the minority. Only 9% of people polled said they like it the way it is lol.
