Radar/Crouching Idea

I think everyone universally agrees that it’s a real pain in the -Yoink- when someone crouches in a corner with a Shotty, SMG or SR, effectively hiding from radar and watching other effectively blind players on their radar so they can kill them. Now you have guys spastically hitting crouch all over the map like hip hop break dancers or some -Yoink- to avoid being bum rushed by the corner campers. I like the fact that I can crouch and hide to get my shields back though. How about this idea. When you crouch it also shuts off your own radar (red blips) of opponents, not necessarily team mates. So you can take the chance to hide, but you don’t get gifted the Eye of Sauron. You need to count on call outs and your own awareness. Thoughts?

If you don’t want to show up on radar, then simply move slower than the standard walk speed. There is no need to change the whole game to fit your play style of running around corners without caution.

I mean you could always just not blindly go around corners, and hide yourself from the radar so they don’t see you. Or grenades. Grenades work too.

The first comment nails it, the second does too.
TLDR: Just STAPH!

Then just don’t play aggressive running around corners.

I just like the LOTR reference.

We need to remove radar completely.

Like you actually have the perfect balance to be able to walk slowly without crouching and without looking at your radar to see if you’d show up. Not a realistic solution because you could push your analog stick too far at any point, requiring constant monitoring at your radar to make sure you’re not moving too fast, not to mention that it’s just a pain in the butt to manage when you can just crouch. The OP’s solution sounds a lot better.

This exactly.

Umm… i don’t think anyone would want that.

I’m trying to stimulate discussion on a disputed topic in relation to H5, not change the game for myself. I’ll never be a Pro or even a Champ. Believe it or not there are players, especially at levels higher than myself, who would like to see radar removed completely. And I’m talking about a small change to the radar mechanics not to “change the whole game”. It sounds like that might be your “whole game”. Casting aspersions unknowingly to my “play style” is hardly warranted. My style of play doesn’t include “running around corners without caution”. Quite to the contrary I have quite a few games where I get double digit shotty/scatter kills on players rushing in to cap strongholds on maps like Stasis and Rig. And when it goes empty I toss it and pick up a freshy 10 secs later so…

Actually a lot of people do this… and you don’t have to constantly monitor your radar because as long as you’re not going full speed you won’t show up. The OP’s solution sounds like something out of CoD where they made you show up on radar whenever you’re not moving. This is how radar has always worked in Halo and it has always been fine. If you don’t want radar, then you can play SWAT. Unfortunately they added Radar to Breakout which is somewhere it shouldn’t be.

My point is that camping and using radar is actually a valid play style for a lot of players and it’s in no way an overpowered one so there’s no real reason to nerf it. Like I said, players can take more caution, or like another poster said, they can use grenades to check around corners.

Cool. Valid points. Splinters are a real -Yoink- for campers, and often produce free weapons.

Nah, if you don’t sprint everywhere like a 10 year old kid you should be fine.

Again, how is this a good alternative when I can just crouch around corners and be fed free info of my enemy’s positioning?

The OP’s solution still maintains the reward of crouching without outright punishing movement. When players can find enemy positioning by staring at their radar without any predicting or forethought as they are hidden from radar, you remove the entire skill gap of general awareness as you don’t even need to be self-aware of where your opponents may be. His solution allows you to slow down game play while removing the brain-dead reward of knowing your enemy’s location, forcing you to have better awareness.

I’d also like to remind you that radar is enabled in competitive and pro game play in general, so this solution would help a lot to combat the horrible consequence of enabled radar for the skill gap.

Sounds like a personal problem. Always assume death is around the corner :skull:

Like I said, the radar mechanic has worked in all the previous Halo games, so why do they need to change it now? It works the same as it always has and they even REDUCED the range from 25 to 18 meters for Halo 5. All I’m saying is if you slow down then your enemies DON’T get the reward of knowing where you are and so that is how you should play if you don’t want to show up on radar.

I think more players need to just learn how to effectively use radar instead of complaining about players who know how to use it.

In the competitive scene removing radar make a lot of sense because no halo has had radar in competitive other than halo 5.

Nah don’t change it. It allows you to play tactically. If you die once and know he’s there you can trick him. Run to the corner then stop. Sometimes he will pop out where you can damage him then throw nades. Or crouch/walk slow. I think the radar works perfectly for halo
