Ok we all know that the Title Update will allow further customizability within each playlist and I think we can all expect a racing playlist in the future. What would you like to see?
-
Some kind of boosting trait as your armor/vehicle ability. Maybe even have two or three different traits to choose
from at the start of a race. Can you think of any more?
-
The vehicles should control/handle differently for racing. Is this a possibility?
-
A mounted gun on the vehicle such as a DMR (Single shot weapon) or have weapons available as drive over pickups. HOWEVER, the player’s vehicle should be the only thing susceptible to damage. If you vehicle explodes you restart at the
nearest checkpoint or if it’s an elimination style game you’re out of the race.
-
Players should not be able to leave their vehicles
-
Introduce civilian vehicles, we are on Reach after all. I know this game isn’t a racing game but it’s always been
been known for it’s wide range of customizability. You can play it however you want.
Though the options you talked about are decent ideas, there are plenty of options available now for making a viable competitive racing gametype/playlist. This file set contains a gametype and 3 maps featuring Warthog Arena Cross racing inspired by the classic NES/Arcade game Ivan “Ironman” Stewart’s Super Off-Road. Because Warthogs are a lot funner to jump than Mongooses (Mongeese? A Pod of Mongi?).
It would be nice to have things like keeping people in vehicles at all times, but what happens when you flip? If there’s a button you push to right yourself, what’s to stop you from holding that button down all the time and staying stable through any kind of rough terrain? How do different vehicles compete next to each other and maintain a balance? Do they all have the same “stats” just with a different shell over it, or does each vehicle offer something different (which, imo, would inevitably lead to a best vehicle)? How different?
As with most other gametypes that breed competitiveness, often times simpler is better so skill and knowledge of the map/course can play a bigger role in determining a winner. I’m not trying to say that what’s in my FS should go into MM, but I more wanted to present the genre of the gametype as something you can start getting ideas from.
For the most part, it seems like what you’re asking for aren’t things they are aiming to do with the TU, but that doesn’t mean they are bad ideas, either.
