Today I played a game of capture the flag versus a very organised team (27.11.12 on Solace, 06.14 PM). Before the game had started one of our players quit, and soon everyone on my team except me quit. By this point the other team controlled the power weapons and in packs hunted the players who joined basically where they spawned. Naturally the additional players on my team quit. I stuck to it, completing the game, the last two minutes one vs four. My k/d spread was -13.
Last week I was in the zone and finished on top of a btb, but the even though the UI stated we won, the game reads as did not finish in waypoint.
Firstly, games that are clearly and easily read as unfair by any measure shouldn`t count towards our overall stats. And secondly, we need to be rewarded more for not quitting in these situations. --Not just punished for quitting. And thirdly, you need to make this abundantly clear for non quitting players and quitters alike for it to have any effect.
If this was the case, I would be fine with stuff like this happening every now and again.
Usually, if you have a whole team, you can mop the floor with 90% of any other team you come in contact with unless you play ranked clan games. Any game with 25% “guest” players is almost a sure lose.
i dont think anyone should be rewarded for staying in a game.
but also noone should get punished for leaving.
sometimes i’m just forced to quit, because i have to go eat,
leave the house or whatever. luckily you can join-in in
matches. the quit bans in reach were horrorful. sometimes
my whole team quit and i was alone versus 4 others and couldn’t
leave because i had to fear that i cant play anymore, but
getting killed every few seconds wasn’t fun anymore.
thats why i hope they won’t change anything.
Games are 10 minutes long, if your hungry eat first don’t play 3 minutes of a game. Bathroom break or knock on the door? go get it, come back.10 minutes, not 4 hours,
If you stick it out and deal with the grief you should be rewarded with double xp, or a token to unlock armor. But, quitting should not always be punished. It’s kind of like -Yoink!-. Outlawing it sounds great up until rape, or in this case, punishing the quitters sounds great until the occasional knock at the door, dinner, family death, or another pressing matter. If you can’t punish to encourage no-quitting, you can really only persuade.
Quitters in Reach were punished because they quitted frequently, if you were banned for 10 minutes you quit quite often, more than a simple knock on the door would cause so yeah I think punishments should be given to those who quit frequently.
this game has JIP so I see problem with players coming and going as they please. I wouldn’t stay in a BS match where the teams are clearly unbalanced and I would rather find a better one.
I’m not one to quit a game that I started, no matter how bad the odds get against me (1v4). Yeah I agree that it’s not fun to play a match of 1 vs 4, but sometimes it occurs and you decided to play the game so you shouldn’t quit because of adversity, even if it’s not the “fair” game that you started in the first place.
I also do see the point of being able to quit, or more needing to quit at times, and not being punished for such. Sometimes things just happen where you don’t have time to wait (even 5 min) for a game to come to a finish. I know it sucks for your teammates if you quit but there are certain things in life that just can’t wait.
Now to be honest, dinner (food) can wait until that 5 min is up, only because if dinner is that close than you should be aware of such before a game begins and have enough sense not to start the game in the first place if dinner is going to start soon. Sorry, I’m just saying dinner doesn’t just pop up and complete itself within 5 min; check with mom, wife, or g/f first if you are worried about running into dinner time. Just saying though; but it is your time so use it how you see fit (don’t listen to me).
But if you are someone that constantly quits because you don’t get your way, whether it be a bad group of teammates, unfair odds, or just not the map you wanted; then I’d say don’t quit, tough it out and then back out of that party after the game is complete. Constant quitting for these reasons should be punished at some point, but only after it continues to happen in this manner.
As for being rewarded for completing a game, well you basically already get points for doing such anyway. So I don’t feel anyone should be rewarded any extra for just completing a match. Now, if your whole team or half your team quits on you; and you continue to fight and finish off the match, then I wouldn’t be opposed to a little bit of extra points being thrown that persons way. After all you complete a match of 1v4 by yourself, you deserve a little extra something since you just fought the hard fight alone.
The only reasoning to myself quitting a game isn’t food or door or random occurance related…
It’s lag… random explosive everything is like flying monkeys lag, and I get dinged for people having horrible internet connections or the server itself f*ing up…
If we could choose games within x amount of maximum ping, say 100-150 max (that’s generous seriously) it would fix that for some as well…
Sorry for bumping the thread. But I`ve been thinking a lot on this the last days, and stumbled upon a greatarticle/blog on this subject.
To make it clear; I do not think you should be rewarded for doing what you should do. Only that you do not have any real incentive to sticking to it, and dealing with the grief as IronPlatypus says. There are good reasons for quitting, sure. Quitting for legitimate reasons, whatever they are, are not apparent to the other players however. Regardles of motive, any form of quitting will legitimize all quitting, is my point. Therefore I wondered if showing great sportmanship should be rewarded more, somehow. But I can`t say for sure.
