This is one reason as to why I party up, I don’t want to deal with those selfish dead weight players who only care about their own fun over everyone else’s. I’d rather have a bad player that’s willing to stick it to the match over them even. At least they’re being a teammate, even if they’re under preforming, I know I can at least count on them to try.
Now people just goofing off the entire match I can do without too of course.
I also don’t care what the situation is with games population, I’d rather wait more for reliable teammates, then get more games full of people that do nothing but waste everyone’s time.
And the other people in the match trying to play? As @General_Fox said, why should they prioritize the one person who decides to leave over the people who want to play the match?
I’m not Jesus. I was not placed here to suffer for others. If you and the others do not care if i’m having fun, why should i care if you have fun? Out side of fun, I gotta go take a piss here and there, and the game decides to kick me anyway. I’m not gonna hold it in just because some people revolve their lives around video games.
And as i said, If those people are willing to stick it out in a 3v4 match then they are not likely to stop playing the game. 343i already has them in the bag. They need to prioritize the people quitting and give them reason to keep playing
Give everyone an “internal” quit rating. Doesn’t matter if it’s based on game modes, maps, or team resilience. Divide the population into those who stick around and those who tend to quit. And then get match making to group like players together.
Or at least make sure there is an even number of quit happy people on both sides. So if a game ends up starting uneven, you could even take the most likely to quit out of the other side and stand them down to make the game 3v3. And then it wouldn’t matter so much if both sides had a bot each to make it 4v4 again.
If you have a full group of quitters playing each other you wouldn’t even have to apply a penalty if one of them quit. As the other’s clearly couldn’t care less.
Sktockets is trash and needs to go already out of 8 matches I’ve had it for 5. Talking about boring. Its no wonder the population dropped. One of many many many many factors of course.
Both sides basicly comes down to the same thing: they both think that the other persons fun is less important then their own.
I can definitely see the side that favours the staying in matches you don’t like, since it often hurts more people then the one(s) that want to quit (mostly, because there are also enough matches where 2 or even 3 people quit).
But on the other hand, the other side is not only asking for people to not have fun and stay in the match, but is also demanding that people who don’t sacrifice their fun (by staying in a match they don’t want to be in) be punished.
I think the current system in social is pretty decent, where you only get banned if you have multiple quits within a timeperiod (problem is only that it’s not clear how much and in what time, especially if multiple people say its a different number, randomness in that doesn’t realy seem fair?).
I am against a ban per quit in socials. Not (just) because it’s social and people sometimes have to quit (emergancy, connection error, etc.), but mostly because of 2 reasons:
Quitbans only deflects from the real issue. If those bans would actually work (they don’t though), it would only make it less visible people are not happy with the matches they got. It only covers up the real problems and is just a lazy thing for developpers to do to not have to fix the actual issues. This would hurt the game way more then quitters (especially because you won’t even lose those quitters, you would just have quitters AND no solutions)
Quitbans only encourages bad behavior. In MCC you saw that when the quitbans where strenghened it barely had an impact on the number of quitters, but the number of griefers and AFK’ers skyrocketed. This is in my opinion because of 2 things:
First the small percentage of players who you do reach with it, still don’t want to play and therefore are just going AFK, run into the enemy to give away free kills (to end the match quicker) or to run into teammates’ fire or vehicles (to get them booted, so they then can quit banfree).
Second because some griefers now use that bansystem to ruin the game for others, since they know they can’t quit the game or otherwise get a ban. They only get a powerfull tool with that. And since griefers use throw away account (and probably also VPN’s, etc.), they can just keep going. Sometimes i expect it’s even an alt account from the enemy team that they deliberately tried to match against them, so they know the enemy team would be a player short and that alt can affect the spawn points. Since the 3 real players can’t quit, they can go on a stumping spree to get their K/D up or brag about spree medals or make clips about to brag, etc.
Quitbans just don’t work in social, since it doesn’t stop quitters. MCC already proved that. It only helps the griefers and prevents real solutions.
And Infinite in theory with JIP has a good system to help take away the negatives for the remaining team members. The only problem is the bot fills in between that. The bots are general in level (no matter the skill levels in the matches, the bots will always be just as strong. This means the bots are to weak for average and above players, but for new players the bots can even be to strong). I hope they change the bot system in a way that the fill-in bot would reflect lets say 90% of the strengh of the player that left. I think that will already gets away the biggest negative for the remaining teammembers.
Good post. What’s so frustrating is: there are plenty of ideas to deal with the problem beside fixing the game. @darwi had a great idea to bench one player per death in a 4v3 to make it even. A forfeit option to end clearly lost game quicker. Make a rejoin feature for disconnects. Let people penalty free rejoin for 30 seconds to counter pure rage quits.
It would all be pretty easy… Add the changes directly to the game (match composer, no desync, no high ping servers, same ping range for ALL players. You can still be good playing as the only US/EU player on a EU/US server) and all these threads would almost completely disapear…
This! The only consequences of banning people for quitting this desynced, half-finished work in progress are:
a) the game still remains broken and unfinished,
b) there are less people playing it because they’re banned,
c) the population dies out because after constant bans people simply quit the game for good.
Like the state of the game itself isn’t enough, it gives people even more reasons to play something else…
Wouldn’t the easiest solution be to just have a game mode browser under each main game type? Have a rotational one if you wish, but separate the different modes into their own playlist? Other games do this well. If I want to sit and just play CTF vs being stuck in a mode like Skockets that would be a great option to have. I mentioned in another post that I feel guilty leaving as I know the role may not be filled and I hate seeing people quit matches just because a side is losing, so I deal with it. But on nights I keep getting modes I hate over and over I just quit the game and go do something else.
That only really works if the player base is really big. If everyone is sitting in a queue for seperate playlists it will drastically slow down matchmaking.
A match composer avoids this issue because people can have all thier regular favourites selected and essentially sit in multiple queues at the same time. When you feel like playing a specific playlist there should still be enough players in that queue to avoid slowing down the matchmaking too much.
This is true, especially for server areas where the player base is considerably smaller than NA. What you suggested would be better than what we have now, which would maybe drive up activity levels within the game.
How do you feel about daily rotational playlists? Just adding that to the game that so every X amount of days you can just play that certain mode you really like, kind of like how Entrenched has land grab for example?
ive yet to get a temp ban or whatever for leaving games.
honestly i leave more games than i finish.
ex: i tried to play 4 pr 5 games today and left every game.
twice was before the game started because mode.
my main reasons for leaving is game mode, then map, then the other team just smacking my face off so its not worth it staying.
maybe its due to how rarely i get on to try so theres lots of cooldown?
on the reverse, the only friend i play with will get like a 5 min ban for leaving while with me once.
idk whats up with that, but im like really suprised i havent gotten the time out.
the veto system and the lobby systems are both the best thing the halo serie’s most have in the first place.
but was there also not a small problem back in the day’s about the veto system that some people not like about it.
that always the same game type gets the bigst vote’s and the one’s the people hate the most are get left out when some people like that game type and never can play it or its become rare since its always get out vote by game type’s like slayer game type versions.
