If you quit before a match starts, you are replaced with a bot.
So if i don’t like a mode… like ‘sktockets’ i have to hide the whole game or get banned.
Maybe the random mode is one a challenge can’t be completed on.

I’m still amazed that stockets got left in matchmaking. It should’ve been removed.
This is where a veto system would be lovely in Infinite.
I love when the GAME disconnects you mid-match and you still get penalized. It’s not like my internet went down or I quit on purpose. It sucks, there should be a way to differentiate disconnect types.
-OR-
they need to implement reconnecting to Ranked matches - like MCC now has.
That’s a thing because people during Halo 2 would unplug their ethernet cords to avoid abandonment penalties. You can blame them for using it as a loop hole.
Till people find you and report you now for AFKing or Griefing, and no one wants a worthless bot in a slayers match. Free kills for the enemy.
Since we can now report people in matches. Lol
There are ways to hide without deaths/ free kills.
Your not afk your just not participating in a bad mode.
To avoid a quit penalty.
Someone comes near you kill them.
If people are losing and frustraited and see you sitting there, doing nothing to contribute, and of course know how to report, you best be expecting people to report you. You are technically griefing too, so they have a reason to report you, as you are purposely putting them at a disadvantage.
If enough reports get through, 343i will probably have someone check on your games, and see what you’ve been up too. They see you sitting around entire matches doing nothing, and you’ll still probably get banned from playing the game.
I disagree. Usually a bot is worse than being down a player. There should be a punishment for leaving your team high and dry.
Having said that, I would prefer the matchmaking to be built more like a match composer. Where you select the map/mode combinations you are interested in playing. That way nobody has to play what they don’t like.
If I really want to play oddball on streets I get really frustrated when it has been 4 hours of slayer and land grab.
I wonder when we will get rejoinable Ranked Arena matches, like MCC has now.
As longs as 343 thinks itza good idea to have a) -5 CSR on an lost oddball game when a guy quits in Our team at the intro animation and b) have you to stick to the game because it counts as an bannable action to quit, I‘m not expecting anything from them.
After 6 years if development and 1 year since launch it is safe to say that 343 has absolutely no clue how to deal with quitting, the reason for quitting and how to handle it. It’s actually pretty embarrassing.
Bungie started the trend back with Halo 2, 343i is just continuing what they started.
They attempted to fix it from what I’ve been told in Halo 4 ( I never played 4 or 5 online, so can’t say ), by trying to quickly get people to take up spots that were opened from quitters and not just ban people for leaving. Unfortunately, that turn out was so bad they quickly reverted it.
I know Bungie had it first, but this was almost 20 years ago… and it was not really a problem in H3.
And yes, JiP is probably the worst „solution“. But I’m absolutely baffled that, after H5 had the exact same issue, 343 didn’t put a single designer on this problem. They didn’t even copy existing and proven solutions into the game. This doesn’t have anything to do with crunchtime, rework or something like that. It was just pure laziness and/or not acknowledging the problem.
Hell, how can you not write an if loop to prevent games starting 4v3 (with no visible quitter).
I guess the store was more important…
I completely agree why should a team be punished for the action of someone quitting i can’t stand that when someone quits at the start handicapping the team. The team that is shorthanded in a ranked match has to sit there watch their rank go down if they decide to stay or quit because you’re out numbered and still get penalized/ban it’s ridiculous and unfair. Another thing that is frustrating is when a ranked match is started with it being 3v4 why can’t they do it like it was in guardians if you quit after a person quit you don’t get penalized or if you stay and play the match you get rewarded if you won with extra XP or if you lost your rank did not go down. I feel a harsher punishment should be applied because obviously what they have in place now isn’t working i feel you should not be able to start a match and play for 30 min right after you quit from the start on purpose and if you the first person to quit on purpose from the start or later because you are losing more than 5 times you should be banned for the rest of the day. Quit (1. = 30min 2. = 1 hr. 3. = 3 hrs. 4. 6 hrs. 5. = the rest of the day) there has to be a better way than what is currently happening just tired of the bs I know you can report the person and block them from playing with you again but there has been occasion where I was placed in the team with the same people I have reported/ blocked so this doesn’t always work they deserve a harsher punishment period imo.
Quitting before desync and crossplay ar sorted out shouldn’t be banned at all to begin with. Fix your game 343 instead of blaming the players.
I think people who advocate for banning people for quitting need to get a life. Play a game mode you don’t want to or we will report you to your manager and make sure you can never play at all. Online Karen behavior. Anyone saying that 3 quit games should ban a player for 3 hours should actually be taken to metal institution because yall are not mentally stable. Yall should have to take a wellness test before being allowed near video games in the future.
Yall act like this new “report player” feature is not going to effect you. Trust me, as a person who used to report people I just did not like, you’re accounts can get a neat permaban too.
Halo 2 would not ban you for quitting, that started in Reach. Halo 2 and 3 just took away XP and deranked you. Source: I quit all the time, especially when i was just getting spawn camped.
Yes there very much were quit bans in both Halo 2 and 3 on the consoles. It first started with just people leaving, then people started pulling their ethernet cords to try and skirt around it, claimming they were “disconnected”, and then Bungie made it that leaving matches, regardless of the situation can lead to bans if you do it too often.
Odd because i quit all the time. Like 10 times a day. Without ejecting my cord. Never got a ban. Don’t remember anyone on Bungi.net mentioning quit bans either. Not until Reach.
I don’t recall how many times you had to do it for it to trigger, and trying to find posts about it is pretty dang hard when that game is like, 20 years old lol. But I was an active Halo 2 player and I do very much remember the complaints about people leaving matches and making the game completely one sided and unfun for everyone else on both the old Bungie.net forums, as well as GameFaqs’s forums, as well as people complaining that they should be allowed to leave whenever they please, regardless of them ruining the fun for other people who play.
It was that, and the lag switch, which gave hosts a momentary advantage they abused, causing the game to lag for everyone else while they could seemingly continue playing.
I remember those. I also remember getting spawn camped and spawn killed regularly. I don’t see how me leaving those game ruined it for anyone. Hell, 9/10 times if i leave my team will probably be better off. There was also a lot of lag switching going on in those days, like you mentioned.
I remember people saying this as a reply to people who advocated bans in ranked, but i don’t remember anyone every saying they were banned for quitting.
As for ruining everyone’s fun. Debatable. Why should people be stuck playing game modes they don’t find fun? Their fun is actively being ruined if they stay. Why should people be stuck in games where they are getting dominated up and down? Their fun is probably being ruined if they stay. Why should people stay in matches that are extremally laggy where they keep teleporting and their bullets do not hit the targets? That’s a lot of fun being ruined.
Those i remember those. A good and valid reason to quit a game.
There’s a few problems with these arguements.
You know before hand that these game modes are part of this play list. Jumping into them means your accepting the fact you may have to play one that you may not prefer. Pretty much all game modes have a 15 minute timed at tops, which is pretty quick to be over regardless. You cannot stall matches infinitely like other games ( ctf matches in TF2… ).
As a DEV, who would you be more inclined to value more in a situation that one person left in a team of four. The enjoyment of the one individual player who left, or the three people left behind who now have to pick up his slack in order to compete? Any dev in their right mind would value the 3 who are left, because there are more of them, and keeping them playing is far more important to their business then the one person who decided he was more important then everyone else in the match?
Valuing the individual who left over his teammates is nothing more then utter foolishness. Risk losing multiple people to cater to one…
How do you feel when you get the games you want, and people leave and your stuck trying to work over time so you don’t get curbed stomped into the ground?
If i like 5/6 game modes, guess what i hate 1/6 of them. If that comes up then i dip. When Halo 2 and came out i had like an hour to play a day if i was lucky. I would not spend 25% of that time in a mode i don’t like.
If they did not quit out of a 3v4 match then they are not likely to stop playing the game TBH. They will cry about quitters, but they will stay and play like they have been doing since the days of old.
Crazy that the old games, including the Halo games, valued the individual over the teammates and held millions of players.
I honestly would not care. If being really honest, if I’m on your team we’re being stomped if it was 3v4 to our advantage.
