I think it is unrealistic to try to prevent quitting by any means. I think that people will quit for a wide variety of reasons; emotions, time constraints, lag, natural disasters, etc. I don’t think quitting will ever be eliminated.
Instead of trying to prevent quitting, 343 should try and create a more flexible online multiplayer system in the future. A good example of a system that is flexible when it comes to quitters is MW 2 or BlackOps. In those games, quitters leave freely and are replaced quickly with new players. This doesn’t completely screw the members of the team that stayed since they will soon have a full team again.
I am sure there are other ideas out there that could work also. It seems ridiculous to me that the best solution Reach came up with was to make people sit out for a designated time frame to prevent quitting. Are you serious? Why would you make a game for people to play that contains a feature that stops people from playing, especially when there are examples of more practical ways to solve the problem?
We have had this thread a million times. Use the search bar.
Also, NO!
This is not COD or GOW! Halo is a competitive Arena FPS. Get a team and a few back up players. Players quit because they are losing and it punishes the players left over in the game for playing poorly. Nothing needs to change. ADAPT. That or go play the games above.

Players do not solely quit because they are losing. That is an absurd statement to make. I also don’t see how you think that all of Halo is a competitive arena FPS. Reach certainly seems geared towards the casual gamer.
I would be fine with the rules concerning quitting to remain the same for a competitive playlist such as Arena. But I still contend that it lacks foresight and knowledge of your gaming community to have the current system for every playlist.

What does it matter if this is discussed again? Are you saying that ALL relevant conversation has been had? That is a bold remark to make.
nah, quitters are the problem.
Well, the architects are too.
Solution? If you don’t like the maps, don’t play them, and you won’t quit, thus you won’t ruin the match for everyone else.

Are you suggesting the option to choose which map you play on? I like that idea. I can think of a few maps in Reach that I would love to never see again.

Ok, first off, Call of Duty doesn’t own joining mid game! Why does everyone say this about everything?
Not a fan of replacing quitters with people who are searching for matches. Especially if the quitters are getting destroyed. Why do you have to punish a new group of people by throwing them into a game where they have no chance of coming back from?

That is a valid point. I have seen the tide turned with an influx of new players, but not that often.
This is true and i think that 343 Industries needs to look into this idea and take away 1000 Cr everytime you quit and if your a repeat offender then double the amount taken or so on . i will say this in 85% of my games someone will quit , 45% its on my team . ruins the game and something needs to be done very big problem in the community .
Quitters are definitely a problem which is why they need to add a Forfeit option to the game. If you’re outnumbered because a majority of your team quit then you should have the choice to continue fighting in hopes of winning or just say “Forget it, you guys win”.

I think this idea could stop those who are angry from voluntarily quitting. I can’t see it causing many negative side effects either.

Theres only good to come out of it . I mean finish your games simple . Remember when you were thinking of quitting in H3 once you pressed the endgame button a warning came and said " Yes im a quitter penalize me " genius makes you think twice is my rank and demotion really worth quitting , instead of how it is now " Oh i dont like Boardwalk CTF " Rage quit and nothing happens . Sorry to say Bungie (i know this is not B.net ) your 15 min multiplayer ban is a joke most people i know are just like ok ill go make a sandwich haha . So if you penalize them it will make them think. just throwing that idea to out there 343 .

And because of attitudes like these … Halo slips slowly into obscurity.
Sure, let’s keep Halo the one game with the most uniquely lopsided matchmaking, and the most unique (and plentiful) team killers, while franchise after franchise soars over Halo’s ashes, stealing away more and more players from the anachronism of a stubborn, sadly dying ten-year old game.

> Halo is definitely unique.
I lol’d. looks at the franchises that ‘soar’ over Halo’s ashes
They’re casual as -Yoink-. That’s why. Besides, they’re not doin’ no “soaring”.
Sometimes having a teammate quit is an advantage. If they were doing poorly, then you don’t have to worry about them giving the opposition more points. Having a smaller team means that the opposing team has a harder time getting multi-kills.
